AutoZone, Inc. Senior Construction Project Manager in Memphis, Tennessee

The Senior Construction Project Manager supervises the execution of construction according to the Construction Contract AutoZone's policies, procedures, and standards. Ensures that AutoZone's programs are being utilized to optimize the performance of AutoZone and the contractor. The Construction Project Manager is a steward of AutoZone's resources (materials, capital, equipment, and people) and continually assesses contractor performance for quality, cost, schedule, safety, and security expectations.

Key Responsibilities:

Project Management:

  • Manage multiple construction projects simultaneously

  • Deploy strong leadership, diplomatic and motivational skills including ability to lead autonomously across multiple business channels

  • Ability to comprehend, analyze, and interpret complex business documents and respond effectively to business sensitive issues

  • Engineer effective and persuasive presentations on complex topics with leadership, and internal-external teams

  • In-depth knowledge of financial terms and principles; execute calculation of complex figures

  • Identifies complex project risks, develops mitigation strategy(s) to eliminate/or reduce and deploys plan of attack

  • Critical decision making if a daily part of Fast Track high volume construction

  • Travel to sites and perform site inspections for quality and schedule adherence

  • Demonstrates capability to read and understand complex construction documents

  • Performs Design Reviews for all assigned projects

  • Review, negotiate and facilitate change orders requests

  • Ability to coach contractors to desired results

  • Ability to help train and mentor Construction Project Managers on AutoZone standard Project Management practices

  • Demonstrates ability to identify complex project risks, develop risk mitigation and contingency plans, and implement action plans to reduce or eliminate project risks

  • Maintain daily reporting and communication on project key metrics and project difficulties

  • Day to day knowledge and updating of project financials and schedules

    Quality Assurance:

  • Site Inspections completed on all projects

  • Onsite confirmation of AutoZone Specifications and Standards

  • Ability to train and mentor Construction Project Managers on AutoZone Specifications, Standards and Site Inspections

  • Onsite confirmation of dimensions and elevations included in Construction Documents

  • Ongoing verification and adherence to OSHA 30 safety regulations

    Education and/or Experience:

  • Minimum of eight to fifteen years of experience in construction project management required

  • Must be able to work successfully in a fast-paced environment

  • Demonstrated ability to make decisions daily that fulfill fiduciary responsibilities and policies

  • Must be able to travel 3 days per week

  • Experience leading, motivating, and managing various team sizes, both internal and external, while holding accountability for performance and results

  • Will be required to manage internal process improvement projects on an ongoing and as needed basis

  • Must be able to fill in for Regional Construction Manager in weekly meetings on an as needed basis

  • Must have effective time management, conflict management, problem solving and strong organizational skills and be able to meet tight deadlines

  • Demonstrated experience negotiating and facilitating change orders requests

  • Demonstrated history of adhering to organizational policies and procedures required

  • Must be able to complete Design Review for each of their assigned projects Construction Documents

  • Must be able to compile and present project specific information to larger groups

  • Experience managing multiple direct reports
