Position Overview 

The underground laborer is familiar with preparation, methodology, tools, and safety related to the placement of underground telecommunication infrastructure for a variety of projects including municipal projects. This position is responsible for performing construction telecom installations as requested by the crew foreman and supporting the telecom crew for large-scale projects with an emphasis on underground construction throughout Florida. The underground laborer is considered “high impact” to the success of the company. The successful candidate will represent Y-COM in a professional manner while dealing with the customer and the public. Regional travel will be required. This position reports to the Construction Manager.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Safety First! The underground laborer is responsible to attend weekly safety meetings and adhere to all company safety practices

  • Assist as required in all manual labor aspects of the project as directed by the Crew leader, Foreman, or Supervisor

  • Assist crew members in placing underground cable, conduits, manual labor and shovel work, operating power tools

  • Utilizes good listening and verbal communications skills

  • Wear proper safety apparel, which includes: hard hats (when exiting truck on any worksite) where required, DOT reflective work vest, and proper footwear (boots)

  • Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned

    Requirements

  • 1+ years experience in underground utility construction work

  • 1+ years experience working with and operating construction equipment (backhoe, mini excavator, trencher, plow, etc.)

  • Ability to pass a background check and drug screen

  • Must be able to work some weekends and evenings when needed

  • Regional travel required

  • High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED) is preferred

  • Valid driver’s license required

  • Valid CDL Class A required

    Physical Requirements

  • Must have physical strength, balance, hand-eye coordination, and stamina necessary to complete jobs in various areas

  • Must be able to perform physical activities that require considerable and sustained use of your arms, legs, and moving your entire body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, sitting standing, and handling of materials up to 75lbs

  • Must be able to work in a non-climate-controlled environment, work in inclement weather, stand, and drive for extended periods of time

  • Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment
