THE POSITION

The Pennsylvania Department of Corrections is looking for a seasoned physician to serve as their Assistant Medical Director. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

The main component of this position is providing medical advice and consultation to contracted physicians, nurses and other professional medical staff. The consultations this position will provide includes reviewing case histories, staff reports and inspection of medical services in State Correctional facilities. It oversees the clinical services provided within the Department of Corrections correctional institutions, which includes medical physicians, physician assistants, certified registered nurse practitioners, and nurses.

Another key component of this position is identifying training needs, developing specific training programs, and conducting various education/training sessions. The target audiences include medical physicians, physician assistants, certified registered nurse practitioners, and nurses.

Lastly, this position evaluates and provides recommendations regarding medical care provided by contracted physicians and Department of Corrections nurses through the use of the Quality Improvement program, utilization management, and the Grievance system.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

Qualifications:

  • PA residency currentlywaivedfor this title

  • Minimum Experience and Training Requirements -Graduation with a degree of doctor of medicine or osteopathy from a medical school approved or recognized by the Pennsylvania Medical Licensing Board or the Pennsylvania Osteopathic Licensing Board and completion of an approved U. S. Residency training program in the allopathic medical specialty of family practice, pediatrics, internal medicine, or occupational medicine; ANDsuccessful completion of 50 hours of continuing medical education approved by the American Medical Association or the American Osteopathic Association in the previous 12 months; ANDfive years of post- residency experience in the practice of medicine, of which one of the last three years must have included one full year in an administrative, consultative or supervisory capacity over physicians assigned a direct primary care caseload, supplemented by successful completion of 75 hours of post graduate education or training in health services administration or related management topics within the past five years; ANDBoard Certification by the American Boards of Medical Specialists or the American Osteopathic Boards of Family Practice, Pediatrics, Internal Medicine or Occupational Medicine

  • Necessary Special Requirement -Possession of a current

unrestricted license to practice medicine in the Commonwealth of

Pennsylvania issued by the Pennsylvania Medical Licensing Board, or the

Pennsylvania Osteopathic Licensing Board and possession of a current

certificate to prescribe medication from the U. S. Drug Enforcement
