MITRE’s Cyber Operations department is currently seeking a Senior Applied Cybersecurity Engineer to help manage, maintain, and grow our corporate security infrastructure.

Who you are and what you know:

You have real knowledge and expertise about networks and security. You understand TCP/IP functionality, and the building blocks of IT infrastructure. You are curious, you love to learn and be part of a learning organization. You thrive in environments where it’s okay to say “I don’t know that YET,” and then go research and learn.

What you will do:

MITRE is not a typical IT Organization. We are an “in-house carrier” and provide virtualized services across our distributed corporate enterprise including on-prem and cloud solutions. You will be part of the team managing operational security configurations day to day, with opportunities to assist more senior engineers in projects to grow and modify our security environment.

What you will learn:

You will learn our security solutions, including vendor-specific implementations. You will explore Zero Trust and its application to current and future architectures and deployments. You will navigate between business, security, and operational requirements. You will discover how we build solutions internally, impacting the organization with the potential to assist with our sponsor’s work.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Manage sustainment & operations ticket queue including triage and resolution of security issues

  • Coordinate with corporate information security regarding operational changes to security policy

  • Assist senior engineers with developing methods to increase operational efficiency

  • Collaborate with team and department technical staff regarding operational changes

  • Participate in 24x7 on call rotation to assist in resolving issues outside normal business hours

  • Participate in assisting triage efforts for operational events

  • Manage individual projects and identify areas of improvement

Basic Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 3 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with relevant experience who can immediately contribute at this job step; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.

  • Exposure to basic programming, such as Python

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.

  • Understand core internet technologies

  • Previous exposure to at least one industry vendor such as Palo Alto Networks, Zscaler, and Cisco

  • Experience working with cloud security solutions (Primarily Azure and AWS)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of network topologies including switching, routing, and associated protocols

  • Active Secret Clearance

  • Experience with Python, Ansible, or other automation technologies/products

  • Previous exposure to industry vendors such as Palo Alto Networks, Zscaler, and Cisco

  • Industry Security certifications such as Security+, PCNSA, CCNA, Azure Security Engineer Associate, etc.

  • Strong desire to learn

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
