The Army Platforms Department mission is to provide world class engineering to rapidly migrate the U.S. Army from operational concepts through technology exploration and innovation to the fielding of integrated solutions that provide an asymmetric advantage. Job Description:

The Army Platforms Department is seeking an Associate Autonomous Systems Engineer to directly contribute to supporting the Army to develop the next generation of autonomous capabilities. As part of an innovative team researching, developing, and integrating state of the art capabilities, including artificial intelligence, mission autonomy, and advanced sensing, this team member will be directly developing systems that enhance future operational capabilities on the land and in the air.

The right candidate will thrive in a fast-paced, technically focused team, bringing their knowledge to bear to work on real world autonomy challenges. MITRE’s team environment encourages creative problem solving, investigating novel and new technologies, and supporting end-to-end autonomy development. In this role, the following is expected:

  • Work in a team setting to develop, evaluate, and implement autonomous systems capabilities

  • Maintain knowledge of autonomous systems and robotics to include artificial intelligence, sensing, mechanical, and control systems

  • Develop, Design, and integrate systems to provide autonomous capabilities; to include collaborating with the sponsor and other FFRDC/UARC partners

  • Develop and propose new approaches to technical problems involving autonomous systems

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and less than 1 year experience in computer science, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, physics, or a related discipline

  • Prior experience as an intern at MTIRE in the last 12 months

  • Experience in coding and using programming language, especially Python, C++, and/or Java

  • Ability to work independently

  • Ability and experience working collaboratively, in a team environment

  • Demonstrates excellent and effective written and verbal communication skills

  • A current and active DoD Secret clearance, with eligibility for Top Secret

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A current and active DoD Top Secret clearance

  • Experience developing software or hardware prototypes

  • Experience working on ground or airborne defense systems
