TITLE: ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR

DUTIES

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Director exists to ensure the economic growth is aligned with the vision to create a

robust and thriving economy in Pittsburg County. The Director is responsible for

initiating, supporting, and managing key economic development projects on behalf of the

City.

The primary focus areas of this role are industrial recruitment, business retention and

expansion, job creation, and increasing the tax base. The Director will work closely with

businesses, developers, investors, government agencies, and community groups to

identify and promote economic development opportunities.

PRIMARY DUTIES: This list represents the essential tasks performed by the position.

Employees may be assigned additional duties by management as required.

Develop and implement strategies for industrial recruitment, business expansion,

job creation, and increasing the tax base.

Ensures the development infrastructure necessary to encourage entrepreneurial

growth and technology innovation to accelerate economic growth.

Identify and cultivate relationships with businesses, developers, government

agencies, and community groups to promote economic development

opportunities.

Provide support and assistance to businesses and developers seeking to locate or

expand near McAlester.

Oversite at the management level of Tourism and McAlester Regional Airport,

following personnel rules and regulations and supervisors directives in order to

ensure consistent achievement of goals and services.

Ensures the timely preparation of complete and accurate staff work for

presentation to council, citizen committees, commissions, and the City on retail,

commercial, business retention, and expansion issues.

Performs research and analysis for presentations on special projects and economic

development issues.

Work with local workforce development organizations to ensure a skilled

workforce is available to support new and existing businesses.

Develop and manage an economic development budget, including grant writing

and management.

Analyze economic and demographic data to identify trends and opportunities for

economic development.

Coordinate and participate in community events to promote the municipality as an

attractive location for businesses and residents.

Collaborates with other businesses, governmental entities, nonprofits, and

educational institutions to achieve regional goals and objectives.

Serves as liaison to citizen committees and special interest groups.

Collaborate with local officials and community leaders to develop and implement

economic development policies and initiatives with coordination from the City

Manager.

Prepare reports, presentations, and other materials to communicate economic

development efforts and achievements to stakeholders.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: Education Requirements refers to job specific training

and education required for entry into the position.

Requires education or training equivalent to a bachelors degree in economic

development, business, public administration or related field. Masters degree preferred.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, AND REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED: Licenses,

Certifications, and Registrations refers to professional, state, or federal licenses,

certifications, or registrations required to enter the position.
