The Hospital Access Representative reports to the Patient Access Supervisor and is responsible for the Revenue Service operations that affect the reimbursement of the healthcare organization. The representative is a registration specialist who obtains complete and accurate patient demographic, insurance, and financial information, and collects liabilities due from inpatients, outpatients, and emergency patients either face-to-face or over the phone. This role requires technical accuracy, excellent communication skills, and the highest ethical standards. The Hospital Access Representative must provide excellent customer service by creating a patient-friendly registration process and managing patient volume variations and difficult situations. The representative is also responsible for resolving physician and patient requests and inquiries and acting as a liaison between departments. Additionally, the role requires compliance with all regulatory requirements. The representative must confirm, enter, and update all required demographic data, complete the Medicare Secondary Payer (MSPQ), and transcribe accurate bed reservation information, among other duties. The representative must attend monthly in-services, precept new hires, and use AIDET skills to monitor patient waiting areas, answer patient questions, and handle calls efficiently. The representative collects and analyzes demographic and insurance information to maintain registration accuracy, completes work queues for high-dollar exams and surgeries, and demonstrates an understanding of the ED arrival workflows, institutional guarantors, and other relevant policies and procedures. The representative must work within HIPAA privacy and security regulations and consistently maintain registration accuracy rates at or above the department standard.
