McLaren Health Care Medical Physicist Senior - McLaren Careers in Maumee, Ohio

Position Summary:

Provides Radiation Oncology Department with physics services to ensure a high level of radiation treatment quality and patient/staff safety. Participates in radiation equipment/software quality assurance program, treatment planning procedures, brachytherapy and special procedures, ensuring radiation equipment performance/maintenance, radiation safety and staff training.

Works independently and assumes responsibility for all applicable treatment modalities. Initiates and leads systemwide quality/safety improvement, new technology/modality implementation, program development and system growth initiatives.

Responsibilities

:

  1. Establishes radiation beam characteristics for clinical usage.

  2. Calibrates radiation therapy equipment, performs quality assurance checks, and coordinates with service engineering to perform basic troubleshooting and repairs.

  3. Consults with clinical and medical staff on simulation and patient setups, and treatment planning.

  4. Provides ongoing oversight of quality and safety of patient treatment delivery.

  5. Provides treatment planning (external beam, brachytherapy), quality assurance checks.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s or PhD degree in medical physics or related discipline

  • Certified in therapeutic medical physics from American Board of Radiology (ABR) or equivalent certification from Canadian College of Physicists in Medicine (CCPM) or American Board of Medical Physics(ABMP).

  • Ten years of work experience in a full-service radiation therapy center, after receiving board certification in therapeutic medical physics, that includesindependent and consistent delivery of technology implementation and program development projects to implement new technologies/modalities and improve quality, safety, efficiency, and patient care.
