Day-to-Day Role:

  • Direct the work, plan and approve resources, and approve engineering project plans and schedules

  • Consult or negotiate with internal or external customers to establish product specifications and requirements

  • Present and explain proposals, reports, or findings to internal or external audiences

  • Develop and convey broad, advanced conceptual ideas, and propose and persuade several diverse stakeholders, including the executive team

  • Drive the execution of continuous improvement plans that affect efficiency, quality, safety, or service

  • Direct activities focused on designing new products, modifying existing designs, improving the new product development process and commercializing new products

  • Analyze technology trends, market demands, feasibility, costs, and customer demands for new and existing products

  • Review, approve, and communicate standardized practices and procedures for engineering activities

  • Forecast operating costs and ensure that budgetary guidelines are met

  • Establish and communicate department goals

  • Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for cross functional projects for engineering area of expertise

  • Assist executive management in developing long-range research and development plans and goals

  • Facilitate and lead a cross functional market channel team responsible for periodic product development project review, stage gate decisions and other responsibilities as assigned to the team

    Core Skills and Qualifications:

    The ideal candidate must possess all of the following:

  • Requires one of the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in engineering, business or related field of study and six (6) years of engineering experience, OR

  • Associate's degree and twelve (12) years of engineering experience

  • Five (5) years of supervisory experience and/or demonstrated technical leadership experience

  • Demonstrated mastery in engineering discipline

  • Successfully managed and completed a large, complex engineering project

  • Advanced knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various products

  • Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications

  • Advanced knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models

  • Advanced knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of products

  • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in planning, resource allocation, cost analysis and budgeting, people management, and leadership guidance

  • Excellent verbal and written skills necessary in order to persuade and influence decision making of individuals, groups, or work teams, and to explain difficult situations

  • Ability to communicate technical topics to non-technical audiences

  • Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems

  • Ability to utilize and train employees on technology, processes and procedures
