Monday-Friday alternating shifts 8:00am-4:30pm and 9:00-5:30pm, rotating Saturday 8:00am-12:00noon, rotating holidays as needed.

JOB SUMMARY

The Medication Access Technician is dedicated to improving patient access to medications at hospital discharge. The Medication Access Technician is responsible for ensuring that patients are offered, and understand the option to participate in the Meds to Bed program. They are an important part of the discharge process, working with other health care professionals, including but not limited to prescribers, nursing, social work, and pharmacy to eliminate barriers to patient access to medications. The Medication Access Technician will work to solve problems involving insurance, prior authorization, access, and patient payment to ensure patients are able to be successfully compliant with their prescription regimen at home.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

A. Education [formal], License & Certification

  1. Required

a. High School Diploma

b. Registration with Iowa Board of Pharmacy.

c. Pharmacy Technician Certification. National certification must be acquired and maintained from the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB), or the National Healthcareer Association prior to the expiration date of a Pharmacy Technician in Training registration.

  1. Preferred:

a. Two year degree in healthcare or related field

b. Completion of formal technician training program

B. Experience:

  1. Required:

a. Two years' experience as pharmacy technician or in patient care (ie: LPN, CNA, MA,

Social Work, population health, community benefit or related field.)

  1. Preferred:

a. Customer Service

b. Experience with pharmacy benefit billing, financial assistance processing, or medication

access.

C. Special Skills and Competencies:

  1. Annual assessment of competency is completed every year.

  2. Must be able to read, write and/or speak English.
