Position Purpose:

The clinical leader is an expert clinician with leadership responsibilities for mentoring other caregivers in all aspects of patient care delivery and assisting the Clinical Nurse Manager (CNM)/Director of Surgical Services.

What you will Do:

  • Supervises and coordinates patient care on the unit and ensures that optimal level of performance/standards of care is achieved. (Initiative/Daily Management)

  • Serves as a mentor for staff by promoting critical thinking in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of the patient’s plan of care. (Skill & Technical Knowledge)

  • Promotes the clinical development of staff by identifying educational needs, sharing clinical knowledge, and structuring educational experience to promote understanding and professional growth. (Problem Identification)

  • Assists with coaching/counseling, disciplining, hiring process, evaluation and recognition of unit personnel in the collaboration with the clinical nurse manager/director. (Daily management)

  • Responsible for promoting and role modeling a positive work environment, teamwork, and colleague engagement where collaboration and teamwork is valued. (Teamwork/Communication)

  • Lead performance improvement activities promoting patient/employee safety, improved quality outcomes, patient care experience and risk management utilizing appropriate problem solving techniques. (Problem Solving)

  • Assists with daily department operations, process improvements and safety including staffing based on patient census/complexity and forecasting staffing needs. Assesses staffing needs for the upcoming shifts, communicates and addresses needed staffing adjustments. (Daily Management/Initiative)

  • Delegates/supervises appropriately based on patient needs and the scope of practice. Demonstrates appropriate delegation and supervision according to patient needs and scope of practice. (Teamwork)

Hours/Schedule:

Full Time, Days with varied hours. Call rotation (1-2) days per week if not call for the weekend, (1) weekend a month and (2) holidays a year.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Graduate of a program in professional nursing.

  • Current RN licensure in the state of Iowa.

  • BSN preferred, or enrolled in a BSN program with completion within 3 years.

  • Professional certification related to clinical specialty and/or leadership obtained within 3 years and sustain

  • Minimum of two years in the Endoscopy Department preferred

  • Ability to work on multiple projects at one time and flexibility to meet department needs.
