Design, develop, manufacture, monitor, and implement equipment, components and structures that are safe and meet the needs and requirements of the system and loads to which they are exposed, as well as improving the performance of existing constructs/machinery and systems at the Mary River Mine and Milne Port. Design and deliver assigned projects using the equipment and materials available onsite within approved budget, schedule and quality parameters, and in compliance with established health, safety, environmental, regulatory and internal corporate requirements. Knowledge of Arctic lifecycle management and Arctic engineering principles including use of FEA, CAD software and formal hand calculation is required

Main Accountabilities

  • Perform full lifecycle product development (design, develop, test prototypes, manufacture and implement)

  • Knowledge of pumping systems, hydraulics, conveyance systems, HVAC is a requirement

  • Preparing and stamping reports, designs, and drawings.

  • Conduct experiments methodically, analyze data and interpret results

  • Calculating loads and stresses for use in the environmental conditions

  • Manage mechanical failures

  • Provide technical advice and problem solving. Test and evaluate theoretical designs

  • Estimating and identifying work scope

  • Effective liaising with regulators and obtaining required approvals

  • Administering contracts and managing projects onsite. Monitoring and inspecting work onsite.

  • Selecting appropriate construction materials available onsite to meet design criteria

  • Participate in development, implementation and adherence to safe work procedures and promote high safety, health and environmental awareness and compliance to all standards.

  • Support development of the department's annual execution plan and develops area specific, goals and objectives.

  • Effective communication, liaison with project stakeholders and coordination with colleagues including those on opposite rotation as well as colleagues based in the corporate office.

  • AFE preparation

  • Other duties as required

Main Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering

  • 5 or more years of Mechanical engineering in mining or construction sector experience

  • Professional Engineer registered in Nunavut (or able to register)

  • Solid understanding of core concepts including mechanics, kinematics, thermodynamics, materials science, mathematics

  • Knowledge of pumping systems, hydraulics, conveyance systems, HVAC is a requirement

  • Experience with AUTOCAD, SolidWorks or similar software

  • Proficient with Excel, MS Word, Microsoft Project or similar software

  • Proficient with FEA software, product lifecycle management (PLM), computational fluid dynamics (CFD)

  • Experience with arctic engineering

  • Previous Arctic and remote site experience

  • Influential leadership skills

  • Client focused
