We are hiring a Sr Workers Compensation Specialist to work out of our office in Marshall, MN or Bloomington, MN. This position is responsible for effectively managing the companys workers compensation program, using established procedures and claim management technology.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for timely and cost effective administration of the company workers' compensation program, including negotiating and managing relationship with workers compensation insurers, monitoring claims, developing and administering loss prevention and rehabilitation management/monitoring programs, maintaining files, and providing necessary support in defense of claims.

  • Successful use of case management technology for claim tracking, resolution and determining the appropriate benefit. Assist with case management system enhancements and testing

  • Responsible for notifying the employee's supervisor of the status of the case, coordinating the return to work of the employee, tracking changes in benefit levels, and updating employment status

  • Educate managers and employees on various HR plans, programs or processes.

  • Coordinates among company managers, human resources, safety teams, insurance adjusters, medical providers, and employees to investigate and process claims

  • Analyzes claims and issues to identify and compare available alternatives

  • Uses jurisdictional requirements, company policies and facts to negotiate and document claims of a moderately-complex to complex nature. Follows up on all actions and formulates the best resolution of the claims, within limited authority settlement reserve range

  • Facilitates litigation plan evaluation and management, as well as cost containment strategies for settlements within limited authority reserve range

  • Communicates trends or concerns regarding claims to supervisor in a timely manner and may serve as a mentor and evaluator of lower level staff

  • Holds vendor partners accountable to the terms and conditions of the contracts and established procedures

  • Provides cross-functional support to ensure compliance with all related leave of absence laws, ADA requirements, and company policy.

  • Prepares various reports that may include the moderately complex analysis of data, including but not limited to OSHA reporting requirements

  • Provides training and direction to new or less experienced co-workers

  • Responsible to conduct yourself and ensure your subordinates (if applicable) conduct themselves in a manner consistent with company mission, values, code of ethics, policies, and other standards of conduct.

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Education: Associate Degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school.

  • Years of Related Experience : 3-5 years related experience.

  • Knowledge/Skills/Abilities : Intermediate proficiency in the operation of a personal computer in a Windows environment to include the Microsoft Office Suite and Outlook; intermediate proficiency with numeric data analysis; intermediate interpersonal and communication skills; demonstrated knowledge and application of broad range of fundamental concepts that enables interpretation and application of organizational policies, practices, and procedures and applies advanced skills to particular field of specialization to completion of difficult assignments; certification or progression toward the American Educational Institutes Worker's Compensation Claim Law Specialist Certification Program or comparable program.
