Aspen Aerogels, Inc. Material Conversion Technician in Marlborough, Massachusetts

Aspen’s extensive portfolio of proprietary aerogel products are manufactured at scale and sold worldwide in the Electric Vehicle, Energy Infrastructure, and Power Generation industries. Aspen is a Tier 1/2 Automotive supplier of PyroThin® thermal barriers, and our Pyrogel® and Cryogel® insulation products are used by virtually all leading petrochemical and refining company across more than 50 countries. Under the direct supervision of the Protoype Team Leadership, the Material Conversion Technician is responsible for following procedures for Aerogel/PyroThin™ product conversion, Thermal Barrier manufacturing operations, and safety requirements as documented by Aspen Aerogels.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Observe and follow all safety procedures.

  • Safely and efficiently operate the Water Jet and Splitter according to company procedures.

  • Load cut files into water jet supplied by engineering

  • Make adjustments to splitter as required to achieve product specifications

  • Close attention to detail

  • Keep a clean and organized work area that conforms to 6S and automotive customer requirements

  • Be able to conform to all automotive quality procedures and documentation

  • Take all measures to avoid contamination of parts

  • Ensure traceability and inventory accuracy in designated work area

  • Participate in trials and cutting of samples

  • Understand product specs and verify conformance of cut parts

  • Adhere to productivity schedule

  • Perform material handling duties in a safe, conscientious manner.

  • Perform preventive maintenance and routine cleaning on equipment as per procedures and/or as directed by leadership.

  • Dispose of waste materials according to company procedures.

  • Assist with equipment installation as directed by engineering personnel.

  • Maintain a safe, clean work area for all co-workers.

  • Support Machine Shop through material preparation as required.

  • Perform special assignments as directed by team leadership.

  • Support other prototype manufacturing operations as required.

  • Work on both automated and manual equipment and machinery

  • Respect our distributors and customers’ confidentiality

  • Keep accurate data logs of material conversion operations

  • Prevent cross-contamination and ensure traceability of different products and their components

  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED), or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Must be able to lift loads of up to 75 lbs

  • 3-5 years experience in manufacturing environment

  • Mechanically inclined, water jet experience is preferred

  • Experience setting up, changing over, programming, and operating water jet, CNC or plasma and laser cutting equipment is a plus

  • CAD experience is preferred

  • Machinist or mechanical background preferred

  • Fork truck experience is a plus

  • Fork truck Authorization required within 6 months of hiring

  • Able to read blueprints is a plus

  • While performing the duties of this job, the noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move more than 75 pounds.
