Position Summary:

Responsible for assisting the Dentist during examination and treatment, reassuring and comforting patient, delivering postoperative instructions, and counseling patients and/or parents on proper oral hygiene and plaque control.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Answering patient questions before, during and after an appointment.
  • Preparing patients for dental procedures by making them comfortable and providing any instructions.
  • Sterilizing dental instruments and equipment, and placing for easy access.
  • Preparing the dental exam room for use by the dentist by making sure it is stocked and organized.
  • Assisting the dentist during procedures, including passing instruments (using the concepts of four-handed dentistry), getting supplies, and using the suction tube to keep the patient's mouth dry.
  • Take digital dental x-rays.
  • Instructing patients and/or parents on dental hygiene and proper care.
  • Keeping patient records and maintaining HIPAA compliance.
  • Maintain inventory of dental supplies and place orders for supplies.
  • Ensure proper operation of dental equipment and completing preventative maintenance according to manufacturer's instructions.
