Position Title: Transportation Equipment Prep Technician Immediate Supervisor: Transportation Manager Summary (Job Goal): Support the safe and orderly transportation of District students and/or staff to and from schools or other designated locations over specified routes according to specific time schedules. Ensure busses are clean, detailed and fueled. Replenish required vehicle/maintenance supplies for District vehicles to maintain a state of operating excellence. Perform light scheduled and unscheduled maintenance. Act as a substitute bus driver. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: (Other duties may be assigned.) Perform light maintenance and repairs to District vehicles such as changing light bulbs, tires, oil, windshield wipers, bumper and wheel paint touch up, etc. Assist mechanics with extensive repairs. Works closely with Operations to monitor route and extra trip schedules and prep vehicles for trips regarding fuel level and cleanliness. Maintain log of all fuel dispensed. Regulate heating, lighting, and ventilation systems in District vehicles for passenger comfort. Wash, clean and sweep all District/transportation vehicles to ensure a clean interior for passengers, including the proper cleaning / disinfecting and disposal of bodily fluids. Participate in required District training. Coordinates and oversees the summer bus cleaning/detailing operation and staff. Report any equipment damage, accidents, and injuries (staff or student) immediately to the Transportation Manager and/or appropriate authority. Prepare emergency evacuation plans and perform semi-annual evacuation drills. Moves District vehicles within the transportation area as needed. Drive District vehicles to and from outside facilities for repairs as needed. Ensure adequate supplies of cleaning equipment and fluids are available to bus drivers. General cleaning duties within the bus shop area. Pick up/ deliver parts, materials, supplies. Develop District working knowledge of all shop and transportation equipment (vans, cars, pick-ups, wreckers, buses) as well as fuel management system, automated bus wash, and bus radio and camera systems. ? Oversee maintenance of vehicle fueling equipment, bus wash equipment, snow removal equipment, and bus camera systems. ? Communicate with transportation staff members regarding equipment needs and expectations. Remove snow and other environmental materials/substances in a timely manner to ensure an efficient and safe working environment. Operate District vehicles to transport students and/or staff to and from assigned routes, following strict time schedules as directed. Provide a safe and secure environment (physically and emotionally) for students, staff and community. Obey all Federal/State laws, traffic laws and regulations; Board Policies, and Administrative Regulations and/or rules. Perform daily pre and post-trip inspections and submit completed designated inspection forms for each route/trip to ensure the safety of assigned District vehicle and passengers. Maintain safety precautions and operate assigned District vehicles in a safe and courteous manner. Follow safety rules as students and/or staff are boarding and exiting District vehicles, and as they cross streets near bus stops. Train students/riders on safety regulations and District policies/expectations and implement appropriate student management/behavior strategies. Communicate/report student behavior issues and all questionable situations or out-of-the ordinary situations to the Transportation Manager and/or appropriate authority for counsel. Appropriately operate all assigned communication equipment in a timely and professional manner.Other duties s assigned. Professional Standards: 1. Willingly takes direction and will modify one's preferred way of doing things) Supervisory Responsibilities: Up to 84 students while operating assigned District vehicle. Summer bus cleaning crew. Minimum Education or Experience: Must be at least 21 years of age preceding the opening of the school year. Licensure or Certification: Hold a valid Iowa CDL (Class B with passenger, air brake, and school bus endorsements). ASE certification preferred.
