Primary Purpose of this Job

The primary purpose of this job is to be responsible for processing, supporting of product lines, programming, and cost estimation. Provide engineering support to the overall process within the additive manufacturing segment of ATI including involvement in core additive process, CAD modeling from customer designs, preparing materials for printing, customer interaction, and other duties as assigned.

Essential Functions (other duties may be assigned)

  • Establish processes for new products and work with customers on development (concurrent engineering) as well as changes in existing processes including all required external (or special) process requirements.

  • Design of Additive Manufacturing build preparation

  • Internal/external technical contact for the additive manufacturing process for both electron beam melting (EBM) and direct metal laser melting (DMLS)

  • Assure inclusion of all customer supplied drawings and specifications into part process. This includes dimensional inspection of critical characteristics.

  • Maintenance and standardization of operating instructions, machine instructions and related equipment processing parameters.

  • Provide technical support in resolving process-related non-conformances and customer complaints.

  • Oversee the issues and update work instruction, including part traveler and process sheets.

  • Responsible for new program milestone achievement in the planning and development.

  • Tool procurement including tool review, source selection, concept drawing and fabrication.

  • Machine tool programming

  • Cost estimating support and contract review as required

  • Interface with customer technical and quality personnel

  • Participate and support in continuous improvement activities

  • Provide input and assistance to machining tooling budget and planning

  • Ability to work on machine controls, i.e. edit programs, offsets, and macros

  • Tool procurement or tool design experience

  • Responsible for training other engineering personnel on process design, programming, tool selection and any other engineering functions that may impact procedures and product

  • Ability to clearly formulate and deliver machining processes and their work instruction to the shop floor

  • Implement software for program review

  • Collaborate with Operations and Maintenance personnel to develop improvements to manufacturing processes and standards that enhance safety in the workplace, equipment performance and product quality.

  • B.S. in mechanical or manufacturing engineering or a related field, or equivalent years’ experience

  • 5+ years of experience in an engineering role within a metal working environment specific to machining and additive manufacturing environment.

  • Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy (DoE) and Department of Defense (DoD) classified clearance – ATI sponsored

  • Skilled in turning, milling, inspection, cutting tools, and their materials

  • Skilled in fixture and tool procurement, general setup and part qualification practices

  • Knowledge, training, and exposure to metal additive manufacturing
