Job Summary

Under the general supervision of the Mill Supervisor, the General Laborer performs a variety of manual tasks on varying shifts as required, inside and outside of the facility and in all departments

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Sweeping, vacuuming, dusting, mopping floors, walls, ceilings, sinks, toilets, etc.
  • Cleaning lunchrooms, restrooms, remove trash, etc.
  • Completing new construction, repair and maintenance to the buildings and grounds, in addition to equipment and the use of necessary tools to perform the same.
  • Loading and unloading supplies, materials, trimmings, package materials and equipment, etc., throughout the facility, on varying shifts as required.
  • Complete general maintenance and construction work such as rough cutting of lumber and pipe, mixing of concrete, digging trenches, repairing roofs, and occasional operation of power tools.
  • Responsible for washing tanks
  • Acts as a truck helper
  • Normally will report and work under Labor or Maintenance, however, will frequently be assigned to other departments throughout the facility as required.
  • Learn to operate mobile equipment as assigned.
  • Notify supervision of any issues, understanding the importance of product quality, integrity, safety, and legality. Comply with Good Manufacturing Practices and is familiar with the principles of the Food Safety Program.
  • Perform other work of related nature, as assigned, within job classification.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • High school diploma or equivalent, required
  • Ability to lift heavy loads or position equipment
  • Maintain good housekeeping practices throughout the department and plant.
  • Keeps working area, tools and equipment clean, neat and orderly.
  • Is familiar with the Environmental Management System policy, procedures or work instructions and understands the potential consequences of departure from the requirement
