The New Jewish Home Medical Records Technician* in Manhattan SNF - New York, New York

The Clinical Resource Systems Department on the Manhattan campus is seeking a Medical Records Technician to join our team! This is a part time job, 15 hours per week. Work location is the Upper West side of Manhattan.

Job Summary : Under the supervision of the Director of Clinical Resource Systems/Health Information Management , the Medical Records Technician will ensure clinical records compliance with regulations and The New Jewish Home's policies and procedures. He/She will:

  • Accurately codes and inputs diagnoses as per ICD 10 rules and incorporates correct codes into the Patient-Driven Payment Model ( PDPM) clinical categories.

  • Maintains admissions, discharges, and transfers to other facilities in the electronic/paper clinical record.

  • Responsible for the release of information and responds accordingly to requests for clinical records from residents, clients/families, attorneys, auditors, government agencies, and others.

  • Assembles, analyzes and maintains the storage of discharged/closed records and provides statistical reports.

  • High school diploma or its equivalent; Associate or Bachelor degree in Health Information Management is preferred.

  • Current certification as a Registered Health Information Technician strongly preferred with 1 to 3 years of health information management experience.

  • Current certification as an ICD 10 coding specialist (CCS) , Certified Coding Associate (CCA) preferred or certificate of completion of ICD-10 coding program and 1-3 years coding experience.

    Specialized Skills and Competencies:

  • Knowledge of IDC10 and CPT coding.

  • Knowledge of Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act ( HIPAA).

  • Knowledge of release of information regulations.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; knowledge of medical terminology.

  • Ability to operate a scanner, fax machine, copier, computer and telephone.

  • Ability to relate effectively with people.
