Children’s Aid (CA) is an independent, not-for-profit organization established to serve the children of New York City. Founded in 1853, Children’s Aid serves New York's neediest children and their families at more than 40 locations in New York City's five boroughs and Westchester County.

Position Summary:

Reliability and high network performance levels are critical to the ongoing operations of CA. TheSystem Administratoris responsible for maintaining key components of the network and in collaboration with others on the infrastructure team, is charged with working with various business and program areas, the IT team, outside vendors, and organizations to maintain the high-performance levels required to support the objectives of the organization.

Essential Duties:The System Administrator is responsible for managing and maintaining a Children’s Aid’s multi-site Windows Server and VM environment including:

  • Windows Server/Active Directory administration

  • Microsoft 365 and Azure administration.

  • Security and antivirus protection administration.

  • Server and network backup configuration and management.

  • Exchange and Directory File Services management and administration.

  • Mobile device configuration and management. VPN and mobile management tools.

  • Participation in infrastructure and network projects including setup, configuration, and support of new technology.

  • Proposing and implementing hardware, security, and software options to improve infrastructure.

  • Participation in security audits and intrusion testing activities, and remediation of any findings.

  • Disaster preparedness.

Exchange & Directory Files Services Administration

  • Maintain current hardware and software patch and release levels for servers and associated applications.

  • Create, maintain, and manage Power Shells scripts. Document scripts and record changes.

  • Administration of logs, mailboxes, accounts, mail groups, personal and share folders

  • Troubleshoot and resolve Exchange or DFS-related issues. Resolve mailbox issues if required.

  • Troubleshoot and Monitor backup and replication process.

  • Ensure proper security access procedures are implemented and maintained

Backup Administration

  • Schedule, monitor, and report on all network server backup jobs. Adjust backup schedules to guarantee data availability and system performance.

  • Perform system and data restores to support business requirements.

  • Implement and maintain data archiving processes and procedures.

  • Perform maintenance on backup jobs, including all file and email servers.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve backup issues.

  • Verify completion of scheduled backup jobs daily.

System Administration

  • Provide maintenance and support of physical and virtual servers, including monitoring, verifying available server resources, and patching or updating software and hardware.

  • Perform day-to-day administration of Active Directory, including creating, disabling, or removing AD user accounts.

  • Manage the Group Policy policies, implementation, and file permission assignments.

  • Maintain and extend ADFS services as required

  • Review system audit logs and alerts as required.

Other

  • Adhere to all defined standards for naming, documentation, and security concerning network server-related systems.

  • Modernizing to cloud systems where feasible and beneficial.

  • Ensure security standards are implemented and maintained. Report any violations.

  • Implement, maintain, and manage remote support processes and procedures.

  • Perform server hardware, firmware, and system software installations and configurations.

  • Maintain currency of software and firmware patches and updates on server-based systems and infrastructure.

  • Implement server or other related projects in conjunction with internal and external resources.

  • Create and maintain current documentation related to areas of responsibility

  • Monitor, log, and execute appropriate responses based on enterprise monitoring device information

  • In-person collaboration is an essential function of the job

  • Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 5 -7 years in a Windows System administration role or equivalent.

  • BS/BA Computer Science or equivalent experience.

  • MCSE, CCNA, VCP a plus

Key Competencies:

  • Exchange and Directory File Services Administration

  • Experience and knowledge - MS SQL Server, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Exchange, Group Policy, PowerShell

  • Virtualization implementation and administration – VMware, vSphere, ESXihosts

  • Excellent Storage knowledge and experience – HP3PAR, NetApp, OneDrive, Azure

  • System Backup/Restore - Veeam

  • Excellent knowledge of Network and hardware technologies - switches, routers, firewalls

  • Very strong analytical, problem-solving, and debugging skills.

  • Highly organized and detail-oriented with outstanding verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to express technical concepts effectively both verbally and in writing.

  • Ability to work well independently and with people of varying degrees of technical expertise.

  • Solid communication and negotiation skills with 3rdparty vendors, IT staff, and business areas

  • Desire to grow and capability to learn.
