ABOUT THE POSITION

The Director of Development at CP Unlimited is an extraordinary opportunity, at a pivotal moment in the Agency’s storied history, for an ambitious and entrepreneurial fundraising professional to plan, create and implement a multi-year comprehensive campaign. The Director of Development will be an adept frontline fundraiser and strategic thinker who brings energy and a well-rounded array of fundraising competencies to advance the mission, vision, and values of CP Unlimited. The Director of Development will be a creative leader with an optimistic and positive demeanor, comfortable in taking initiative and challenging preconceptions. A self-directed leader, the Director of Development will exhibit a drive for excellence and be motivated by a desire to learn and implement best practices to achieve ambitious fundraising goals. Reporting to Chief Communications Officer, the Director of Development will:

  • Work in partnership with key stakeholders to advance key development strategies and meet or exceed annual fundraising goals

  • Create and deliver a comprehensive prospecting effort to identify and engage potential new supporters

  • Manage a personal portfolio of significant donors and prospects across multiple constituencies

  • Support and guide the efforts of the Development, Campaign, Special Events, and other fundraising or project committees

  • Assure donors receive ongoing cultivation and proper stewardship

  • Work closely with organizational and community leadership to create contributed income and a donor base by building on the strong foundation of successful patron-centered advancement activities

  • Develop and maintain an effective partnership with campaign consultants from CCS Fundraising

  • Organize a departmental plan of work to achieve annual operating and campaign goals

  • Oversee the production of all development collateral, including copy and design of donor materials, and work closely with the Communication’s team to ensure consistent branding and messaging

  • Direct efforts to refine and implement development initiatives in the Agency’s strategic plan and focus on achievable objectives to advance long-range departmental goals

Qualifications:

  • Applicants must possess a bachelor’s degree, master’s degree preferred, plus a minimum of five to seven years of progressively demonstrated development expertise in the intellectual and developmental disability or related field.

  • Experience with a significant capital or endowment campaign is strongly preferred. Candidates should have a well-rounded knowledge and proven track record in major and individual gifts, institutional support, planned giving, and/or special events

  • Possess written and verbal communication skills with a demonstrated capacity to lead, tempered by adeptness in building consensus among a diverse set of stakeholders

  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite of products along with development CRM systems and software

  • Experience with and knowledge of the New York donor community will be viewed favorably

  • Possess keen prospecting skills along with the ability to effectively cultivate and solicit high-level donor prospects
