This position oversees and manages the accounting for administrative and academic departments in the College of Veterinary Medicine. This includes account setup, accounts payable, accounts receivable, account reconciliation, and financial reporting.\ \ BUSINESS MANAGER DUTIES FOR ADMINISTRATIVE AND ACADEMIC DEPTARTMENTS (ANATOMY & PHYSIOLOGY, CLINICAL SCIENCES, DIAGNOSTIC MEDICINE/PATHOBIOLOGY, VETERINARY SUPPORT SERVICES AND DEAN\'S OFFICE)\ \ -Oversees fiscal operations for administrative and academic departments including all accounting expenditures, billing, and collection operations. The daily management of fiscal operations is essential to department units having the expected outcomes in teaching, service, income generation, and collection of outstanding accounts. Enforces policies and procedures as mandated by KSU and the State of Kansas.\ \ -Reviews and implements changes in procedures to ensure compliance. Reviews all vendor payments being made with non-grant funds. Ensures expenses are appropriate and allowable on the given funding source and within the approved budget. Advises personnel in the resolution of problematic situations with financial and/or customer service issues.\ \ -Completes monthly reconciliation of college accounting system and university financial reporting system (FIS). Analyzes and reconciles any differences between the systems and processes the appropriate transfers to make needed corrections to an alternative funding source.\ \ -Prepares and analyzes financial summary reports, budget reports, and projects cash flow (payroll, operating expenses, service income), both on a routine basis and on demand. Provides input into management decisions related to the allocation of funds to projects and activities, historical trends in operating expenses, and for the operating divisions management decisions. In addition, position completes an in-depth fiscal analyses at the close of each fiscal year to determine specific departures from historical trends and underlying circumstances that account for those departures.\ \ -Assists Department Heads in preparing and managing the fiscal year budget in accordance with department needs and expenses. Creates projections for incoming revenue as well as anticipated expenditures. Tracks outstanding commitments such as start-up packages, renovation projects, equipment leases, etc. to ensure the availability of funds across fiscal years.\ \ COLLEGE LEVEL SPECIAL PROJECTS\ \ -Works with Assistant Dean for Administration and Finance (ADAF) on special projects as assigned.\ \ -Works with Business Leadership Team(includes Business Manager II-Affiliated Corporations and Budget Officer) to provide direction for college programmers to create new data management solutions for automation of business processes. Examples include building and refining the student tuition module within the GL which projects and reconciles CVM student tuition as well as a module which manages CVM salary savings agreements and disbursements back to departments.\ \ -Prepares tuition projection each semester. Verifies tuition rates and hours for each CVM student within integrated Student Information System (iSIS), accesses technology fees through iSIS, and oversees import of student data from iSIS to the GL tuition module.\ \ -Assists with administration of ImageNow softwar . Manages security, capture profiles, workflow, and document properties. Trouble shoots with end-users as issues arise. Evaluates current business processes implemented in ImageNow as well as explores additional areas to implement ImageNow.\ \ ACCOUNTING/FINANCIAL POLICY REVIEW AND DEVELOPMENT\ \ -Works as a member of the Business Leadership Team to review and enhance college business operations and functions. This position is expected to assist with needed fiscal policy or procedure changes to improve unit operations and profitability. He/she must also take responsibility in the college achieving success in its teaching, research and clinical service missions.\ \ -All policy and/or procedure decisions require appropriate acceptance and approval prior to implementation.
