Job Description 

Electra is seeking a Systems Engineer to support systems engineering activities for the prototype 9-passenger hybrid electric eSTOL (electric short takeoff and landing) aircraft.  This is an incredible hands-on opportunity to make a direct impact on a cutting-edge development program. This position will be based in Manassas, Virginia.

Responsibilities & Essential Functions

  • Developing and maintaining system engineering processes for the program.

  • Leading requirements management activities for the program, including developing requirements, establishing requirements traceability verification matrices (RVTM) and supporting verification analysis and testing.

  • Performing safety and reliability analysis, including (but not limited to) Functional Hazard Assessments, Fault Tree Analysis, and Failure Modes and Effects Analysis.

  • Collaborating with Integrated Product Teams to define and manage system and subsystem interfaces.

  • Supporting aircraft level processes and documentation, including CONOPs development and risk management planning.

  • Providing subject matter expertise, technical review, and mentoring to a broad team of engineers.

  • Interfacing with customers, suppliers, partners, and internal stakeholders to ensure program alignment.

    Required Education and Experience

  • B.S. in Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering (or related STEM discipline) and

  • 2 or more years of experience in relevant discipline areas (or an equivalent combination of education, skills, and experience).

    Required Skills

  • Experience with the aircraft development process and understanding of aircraft systems.

  • Experience applying systems engineering methods and tools, including requirements development and system safety analysis.

  • A strong work ethic and ability to independently execute the areas described by the responsibilities and essential functions.

  • Excellent organization and communication skills.

    Desired Qualifications

  • Advanced degree preferred.

  • Experience leading systems engineering activities on an aircraft platform.

  • Experience supporting prototype development programs.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs), certification procedures (especially Part 23), and relevant industry standards.

  • US Person (Citizen or Green Card) Preferred

  • Licensed Pilot Preferred

    Working Conditions:

  • Work is typically performed in a warehouse/aviation and office environment which requires proper safety precautions.  May need to lift up to 50 lbs.

    Location : Headquarters in Manassas, VA. To encourage close collaboration this position requires daily onsite hours.

    Travel : <25%
