Amazon Sr Embedded Linux Engineer, Ring in Malvern, Pennsylvania

Description

Ring is looking for a Senior Embedded Linux Engineer to drive development and strengthen our Yocto based platforms at Ring Solutions in Malvern, PA. We are seeking a talented and motivated software engineer who is also comfortable working directly with hardware. You will work as a part of the Systems Engineering team dealing with hardware board bringup in an embedded Linux environment. This includes the kernel, drivers, chipset firmware, and manufacturing test software. Working in the Systems Team, engineers support consumer electronic security and IoT devices.

Key job responsibilities

  • Develop in an agile environment

  • Maintain and support our Yocto build system in a continuous integration environment, including packaging and deployment of software

  • Write and maintain scripts to initialize and control the peripherals of the platforms

  • Maintain or enhance current embedded Linux code and scripts

  • Configure and modify the kernel and embedded boot loaders

  • Utilize and enable security features in various chipsets

  • Work with vendors to support peripherals in the kernel and their drivers

  • Work side-by-side with QA to complete qualified work

  • Incorporate builds into continuous integration where applicable

  • Write and support our manufacturing test scripts and test rigs

  • Some international travel could be needed

  • Offer occasional assistance to Technical Support

A day in the life

You will work within the Board Support Systems team and interact with other cross functional teams in developing the platform software for our hardware devices. We work as a team together with Product Managers to align on requirements; Program Managers to maintain priority and timelines; and quality assurance to ensure our work is delivered at the highest standards. You will have the chance to work on a variety of different tasks related to Linux, kernel, drivers, builds, firmware, security, and other technical areas of interest.

About the team

Our team of engineers is responsible for the design, bringup, maintenance, and configuration of all low-level software on a variety of embedded Linux devices, including cameras, alarms, wifi bridges, and other connected devices. Our team has worked together to build an environment that values open communication and celebrates sharing knowledge. Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

  • 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience

  • 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

  • Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering or equivalent
