The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education’s Center for Instructional Support is seeking a contracted employee to perform the following essential duties: Job Responsibilities: 1. Support high-quality instruction in the history of genocide in accordance with the mandate established in the 2021 Act Concerning Genocide Education. This support includes: • Working with a research team to conduct a landscape analysis of the current state of genocide instruction across Massachusetts and determining the highest priority resources and supports • Developing resources and supports (e.g. guidance documents, resource lists, professional development workshops) to meet educators’ needs related to genocide instruction • Managing a grant opportunity for districts to strengthen genocide education, including developing the request for proposals, leading the scoring process, communicating with all grant applicants throughout the year to ensure that funds are well spent and maximize impact on students, and preparing required grant reports • Collaborating with community partners who support genocide education as appropriate 2. Support other existing statewide history/social science projects by collaborating with Department staff, as needed. 3. Perform related duties as required. Preferred Qualifications: 1. Knowledge of, and interest in, important elements of history, social science, and civics content and pedagogy strongly preferred , including: a) Key content in history, social science, and civics b) The role of historical practices/skills and literacy skills in history/social science instruction, including inquiry-based pedagogy c) Creating relevant learning experiences that connect to students’ identities, prior knowledge, and lived experiences d) Middle and/or high school genocide education 2. Deep knowledge of culturally responsive and sustaining practices (i.e., features of history/social science curriculum and instruction that disrupt bias and develop all students’ academic achievement, cultural competence, and sociopolitical awareness) and commitment to bringing an anti-racist lens to every aspect of the work strongly preferred 3. Experience collaborating with a range of diverse stakeholders, tailoring communication to successfully collaborate and complete long-term projects strongly preferred 4. Attention to detail and ability to organize complex streams of work involving multiple stakeholders required 5. Experience working directly with students and demonstrated success in driving student learning at the preK-12 level, particularly for historically underserved populations, in history/social science strongly preferred 6. Direct experience teaching and/or developing resources related to the history of genocide 7. Knowledge of best practices and/or direct classroom teaching experience with other areas of History and Social Science which interact with genocide education at the state policy level, including but not limited to: a) Financial literacy b) Civics c) Media literacy 8. Experience with one or more of the following: a) Program evaluation and/or research methods b) Reviewing and/or selecting curricular materials 9.
