Job Description

The opportunity

As a strategic member of the Business Continuity Management Team within CIG, you will have a vital role of reducing risks to Manulife’s assets. You will accomplish this by leading the Business Continuity function for Canadian Division. The Business Continuity function provides critical support to all of Canadian division and is key to ensuring the success of our business. You will be a significant contributor, providing risk management consulting services to Canadian division.

Responsibilities

  • Support business continuity management framework and processes including the business impact analysis, recovery time and point objectives, single point of failure and critical path mapping reviews, and coordinate the testing of continuity strategies

  • Manage automated notification tool (MIR3) to ensure data integrity and integrate with on-boarding and departure processes for HR and Procurement of employees, consultants and contractors on premises

  • Ensure Crisis Management, Crisis Communications, Enterprise BCMP, Infectious Disease Outbreak and Emergency Response plans are up to date and aligned to ensure effective response capabilities

  • Help ensure adequate BCPs and DRPs are valid and viable through regular testing and evidence is maintained to provide assurance of resilience for business continuity risk

  • Manage the due diligence review of Third Party BCM Evaluation Questionnaires for outsourced and key suppliers and report gaps/opportunities to the Director

  • Assist the business in tracking and reporting on open action items related to lessons learned identified through testing, external events, and Internal Audit/external review findings; ensure adequacy of evidence to support closure of findings

  • Help lead the analysis of refreshing enterprise BCM key risk indicators and work with Global BCM for approval

  • Help gather reporting data required on state of preparedness for Quarterly/Annual reporting to CIO and Semi-Annually reporting to BCM Steering Committee

  • With business, monitor external events/environment & identify emerging risks related to business interruptions

  • Develop BCM operating procedures as required

  • Assist business in analyzing root causes of incidents, control gaps and development of sustainable mitigation action plans

  • Ensure action plans are properly classified, reported, and tracked to completion

  • Assist the business in tracking and reporting on open action items relating to KRIs, Compliance gaps, Internal Audit/external review findings, ensure adequacy of evidence to support closure of findings

  • Encourage an open environment for collaboration, risk identification, and remediation with business leads

  • Support the Director in redeveloping risk metrics and KRI’s based on business incident outcomes, changing and emerging business needs, organizational needs or regulatory requirements

  • Maintain appropriate documentation, records and reports for review by auditors and regulators

What we are looking for

  • 5 years of relevant business continuity management experience

  • Professional certification(s) related to business continuity management such as ABCP/CBCP

  • Post secondary diploma or degree in business, economics or equivalent is considered an asset

  • Strong understanding of business continuity management principles and associated disciplines i.e. disaster recovery, incident management, information security, privacy and vendor management

  • Ability to facilitate and lead organization to resume critical business functions to acceptable business levels following a disruption and return to normal business

  • Ability in identifying, measuring, assessing, monitoring, analyzing and reporting operational risk management

  • A track record of delivering projects and initiatives through to completion
