IBM Tax Professional in Madrid, Spain

Introduction

We are looking for a smart, passionate and experienced Corporate Tax professional to join our Spanish tax team based in Madrid. The Spanish tax team consists of 3 persons covering VAT, CIT and the position will be reporting into the Country Tax Manager for Spain & Portugal. You will be a key player in the team and function in a multi-national and multi-cultural environment, focused on handling corporate tax compliance matters, tax analysis and internal reporting. To succeed, you must be smart, a self-starter, able to grasp complex situations quickly, and have a hands-on approach, a passion to 'get things done' and a 'can-do' attitude.

Your Role and Responsibilities

Tax compliance

  • Continuously monitor corporate tax legislation changes and address impact for the company.

  • Review complex corporate income tax returns & provisional tax payments for the Spanish entities of the IBM group. These activities are prepared by the Direct Tax Support Center based in Argentina.

  • Timely identifying possible exposures in tax returns and report them.

Tax accounting and reporting

  • Assist with the preparation of timely, accurate and efficient calculation of the monthly, quarterly and annual US GAAP tax provision for IBM's Spanish entities, both current and deferred taxes.

  • Review Tax Disclosures for the Financial Statements.

  • Assist with monitoring tax risks provisions (FIN48), cash tax position and effective tax rate.

  • Assist with various SOX related compliance matters.

  • Review internal tax reports prepared by Direct Tax Support Center.

Other

  • Assist with improving the tax reporting and tax compliance process.

  • Assist finance and other departments with tax related questions.

  • Support Merger&Acquisition activity

  • Support tax audits (external and internal)

  • Analisys of opportunities to optimize cash tax

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

  • 5-6 years of relevant professional experience specializing in Corporate Tax (Merger & Acquisition experience would be valuable).

  • Desirable to have experience in an MNE environment in addition to experience in an Accounting firm. Some experience in US GAAP/ IFRS would be an asset.

  • Significant comfort and ability with complex Excel spreadsheets and other Microsoft applications are very important.

  • Fluent English language is a must (spoken and written)

  • Basic knowledge/experience of Employment Taxes and Non Residents Taxes would be an asset
