Purpose of Position:

The Employee & Labor Relations Specialist role is dynamic and exciting and supports a range of activities related to both collective labor relations and individual colleague management issues, with focus on culture, performance and data.

This role reports to Spain Colleague and Labor Relations Manager and will work closely with Colleague Experience Group (CEG, previously HR) colleagues in the market, and sits within a team which prides itself on its expertise and its collaborative spirit.

As a global organization this role will provide the delivery of ‘best in class’ CLR consultancy service to both local market business leaders and employees as well as to Leaders globally who may have teams based in Spain.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Support the Spain Colleague and Labor Relations strategy by driving a proactive data-driven approach and supporting the introduction of innovative ways of working to unlock enterprise value and ensuring a great colleague and leader experience during the whole colleague lifecycle.

  • Support business leaders on a high volume of cases covering all aspects of the employment relationship, such as collective bargaining, disciplinary, complaints, performance, absence, flexible working, redundancy, contractual changes, etc.

  • Deliver tailored trainings for leaders and colleagues on key topics to drive consistency, ensure legal compliance and educate on Leadership Behaviors and American Express culture.

  • Support information/consultation activity including the relationship with the Workers Councils and Unions when required.

  • Manage data tools, track and report data to support data-driven decision making and inform effective prioritization.

  • Focus on continuous improvement, innovation and agility. Continue to work on automation and digitization of processes where appropriate, leading with external perspective.

  • Partner effectively with key stakeholders such as the broader Global Colleague and Labor Relations teams, Business Leaders, CEG colleagues, and third-party suppliers.

What we look for?

  • Minimum of 3 years of Employee Relations experience in a large matrix organization – including collective bargaining, disciplinary, grievance, performance, absence, flexible working, redundancy, contractual changes, etc.

  • Knowledge of Spanish Employment Legislation application/interpretation – including ability to quickly assess potential areas of risk.

  • Team worker.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to influence and liaise with all levels of management.

  • Ability to focus both on detail and wider implications of issues.

  • Strong presentation and project management skills.

  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills in Spanish and English.

  • Degree qualified, master’s degree or equivalent would be a distinct advantage.
