Job Description

DUTIES: Develop instruments from a theoretical phase through bench testing and final optical assemblies.

Align project timelines with New Product Introduction (NPI) roadmaps and interface with NPI teams to transfer Proof-of-Principle (PoP) systems to R&D.

Initiate and management collaborations with colleagues and customers to develop new ideas into meaningful, time-bound projects with defined scopes and budgets capable of capturing or creating new markets and applications.

Analyze, evaluate, and report on new technologies including publications,

Lead multiple projects to conceive, design, develop, prototype, and transfer highly innovative Proof-of-Principle (PoP) systems to R&D for incorporation into the New Product Introduction Process (NPI).

Collaborate with electrical, software, and mechanical engineers to design, procure, and test prototype systems.

Collaborate with Patent Attorneys and IP legal team to identify, capture, and file new patent applications.

Identify new supplies needed to source critical components in support of research projects.

De-risk new features targeted for next generation instrumentation aligned with new product development projects.

REQUIREMENTS: PhD or foreign degree equivalent in Physics, Chemistry, Engineering, or a related field of study plus 2 years of experience in Research & Development, scientific research, product development, or related experience. Employer will also accept a Master’s degree or foreign degree equivalent in Physics, Chemistry, Engineering, or a related field of study plus 5 years of experience in Research & Development, scientific research, product development, or related experience as an equivalent alternative.

Must have experience or knowledge of:

Designing precision optical systems;

C++, MatLab, and LabVIEW;

Proof reading and editing patent applications drafted by Patent Attorneys;

Spectrometry, optics and sensors;

Intellectual property and patents; and

Chemical synthesis and analytics

Travel: Willing to travel up to 20% domestic and international.
