American Family Insurance - Corporate Sr. Communications Specialist (Flex Office/Home) in Madison, Wisconsin

Position Compensation Range:

$76,000.00 - $125,000.00

The Senior Communications Specialist researches, plans, develops and implements strategic communications that enhance the organization's relations with customers, employees, agency owners and community. You will conduct work to reach defined audiences and meet specific strategic goals and business objectives. In addition to internal communications, you may coordinate or be involved in planning and executing external communications with news media and other influencers. You will plan and deliver internal and/or external communications through appropriate forms of content and channels to maximize effectiveness. You will provide strategic counsel and support to the organization to proactively lead in the development of communication strategies to internal and external audiences which may include news media that achieve business objectives and build understanding and support with the organization's values, objectives and actions. You will report to the Director, Communications.

In this flex office/home role, you will be expected to work a minimum of 10 days per month from one of the following office locations: Madison, WI 53783; Boston, MA 02110; Denver, CO 80112; Eden Prairie, MN 55343; Keene, NH 03431; St. Joseph, MO 64507; Phoenix, AZ 85034; Nashville, TN 37214

Primary Accountabilities

  • You will lead the development of plans and timelines that support corporate and divisional goals for the communication and representation in the media.

  • You will develop content, select channel and manner of communication that best supports the objective.

  • You will effectively represent the company in spokesperson role if needed.

  • You will prepare and coach executives and internal subject matter experience on specific issues, topics, communications, etc.

  • You will recognize when major projects may impact other groups or draw news media interest. In response, develops or partners with others to develop effective media relations strategy.

  • You may represent/serve as the contact point for the news media, including serving in a company spokesperson role.

  • You will work with Communication colleagues and business partners on development of crisis communication plans.

Specialized Knowledge & Skills Requirements

  • Excellent writing, editing and verbal communication skills

  • Equal competence in both internal and external communication strategies.

  • Demonstrated in-depth understanding of target audience, highly effective writing style, and expertise in high-impact messaging

  • Ability to manage tight timelines when required by a situation

  • Proficient in Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, and Excel

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to independently prioritize and manage multiple projects effectively.
