JOB REQUIREMENTS: The Madison Metropolitan Sewerage District is happy to announce our Operations & Maintenance Summer openings. These positions offer an excellent opportunity to gain valuable experience in the work areas listed below while making an impact on the organization and our local communities, enhancing the quality of our water. Who We Are Since 1930, the Madison Metropolitan Sewerage District has maintained an enduring mission of protecting public health and the environment, and serves the Dane County region through wastewater collection, treatment and resource recovery programs. Through these programs, the District recycles and returns to the environment clean water, generates renewable energy and recovers nutrients for agricultural uses. As a result of its initiatives in source reduction and resource recovery, the District is a nationally recognized leader in returning clean wastewater to the environment. Made up of a passionate team of 130-employees, the District serves a population of just over 424,000 in the greater Madison area. The District has a 188-square-mile-service area that encompasses 24 owner communities and operates a large network of interceptor sewers, pumping stations and a state-of-the-art wastewater treatment plant. These positions will require on-site attendance and the district will provide training and experience including the necessary safety training for duties. Positions require ability to work full-time ideally between April through October, however College Students seeking Summer work are also encouraged to apply. Work hours will be between 6:00 AM 2:30 PM. The positions available are: Facilities Maintenance Assistant Collection System Services Assistant Applications will be reviewed until the positions are filled. Work as part of the Facilities Maintenance team to serve the needs of the District by performing landscaping, painting, treatment tank maintenance and general maintenance including custodial duties. OR Work as part of the Collection System Services team to serve the needs of the District including assisting with daily sampling route, performing manhole inspections and data entry, and performing general sewer and manhole maintenance. ***** OTHER EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS: All candidates will be considered for these positions who meet the abilities and criteria below: Age requirement: 18 years old or older Strong awareness of safety precautions, including care operating equipment Ability to lift/carry 50 pounds Must be comfortable working in traffic and around sewer manholes Effective communication skills and ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions Ability to work well with others including supervisors, fellow employees, and the public Valid Wisconsin Driver\'s License Ability to meet adequate attendance, including punctuality and reliability. Must be able to occasionally lift loads up to 50 pounds unassisted. Must be able to stand, walk, stoop, crouch, crawl, sit, twist, turn, climb ladders, work from scaffolding or lifting equipment, and work in very awkward positions for extended periods. The level of risk is such that it requires close attention to work details; adherence to safety programs and procedures; and use of personal protective equipment to prevent accidents or injuries. It also requires the necessary speaking and hearing ability to communicate in person, publicly, or over the phone.
