Job Information

United Methodist Church Madison Office Assistant II in Madison, South Dakota

Reports to the pastor and the Madison United Methodist Staff Parishis committee. The person hired will provide assistance to the Pastors, staff, and the various committees and church groups in a positive and professional manner. Will also assist with designing and publish printed and electronic materials. This is for 30-35 hours per week, day hours to be negotiated.

Qualifications:

  • Effective oral and written communication skills with attention to detail, knowledge of standard office procedures, and proficient computer skills.

  • Willingness to continue developing computer and publishing software skills and expertise
  • High School Diploma or GED required, college preferred
  • Strong commitment to maintain confidentiality

Responsibilities:

  • Represent the church in a positive and professional way to members, visitors, and general public
  • Answer phones, take accurate messages and distribute in a timely manner
  • Utilize Microsoft Word, Publisher, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook and Church Windows Software. Also use Google related documents.
  • Prepare and distribute all church publications, including bulletins, newsletters, meeting minutes and notices, correspondence, charge conference reports, directories, etc
  • Proofreading all printed, electronic and audio-visual materials
  • Maintain records for church files, minutes, and written and electronic correspondence
  • Help coordinate church calendar, activities, and building use
  • Notify the custodian(s) of any unusual cleaning, maintenance work, or special arrangements that might be required.
  • Provide building usage policies when needed
  • Order and receive needed curriculum, office supplies, and all other resources as required and approved
  • Attend staff meetings
  • Recruit and train volunteers to assist with office tasks such as folding, bulk mailing
  • Design and prepare visuals for Sunday and other worship services
  • Update and maintain the church website
  • Create and implement a plan to engage through social media platforms
  • Maintain LED sign
  • Prepare and distribute committee agendas and minutes for meetings
  • CCLI reporting
  • Live streaming and recording of services or portions of the service
  • Additional duties as assigned

Compensation:

  • Salary to be determined by the Staff Parish Relations Committee with assistance from the finance committee.
  • Wages paid bi-monthly
  • Personal time off accrued at a rate of 2.0 hours prepay period for the first 3 years. Starting on the anniversary of the 3rd year, the accrued rate is 4.0 hours per pay period. Maximum of 80 vacation hours can be accrued.
