Vertex Aerospace Lead Avionics Technician - Madison, MS in Madison, Mississippi

Engages in production activities by providing oversight for repairing and overhauling aviation components in various production areas to include but not limited to: NDI, Wheels/Brakes, Blowers/Motors, Landing Gear/Components, Sheet Metal, Propeller and any other area deemed necessary to improve daily throughput of the Component Services business. The incumbent is responsible for all administrative support for crew areas assigned. Must have a working knowledge with SAP. Position will typically be assigned as an FAA Repair Station Inspector stamp. This role will be associated with extensive knowledge in the area assigned.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Knowledge of the following are required
Performs aircraft component overhaul and repair
Acts as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) in the shop in which responsible
Writes routine reports and correspondence
Responsible for daily component status reports
Responsible for weekly component inventory and status reports using multiple sources of information, such as databases and physical inventory on the floor
Interprets a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule forms
Prioritizes the daily workload based on program, management, and/or scheduling requirements
Plans and organizes component repair activities
Recognizes or identifies the existence of a problem and provides recommended solutions
Performs a task in the presence of distracting stimulation or under monotonous conditions without significant loss of thought process and efficiency
Operates hand and power tools
Acts as the crew chief and inspects technician’s work product and sign-off within Repair Station and applicable contract, government, state, and/or local regulations and/or guidelines
Interprets drawings, specifications and schematics
Reads, understands, and responds to written instructions and logbook notations
Informs appropriate personnel of materials and equipment problems
Reports concerns regarding maintenance, safety, employee relations, or quality to immediate supervisor. May also make recommendations on possible solutions regarding the same.
Provide work leadership and training to other team members
Makes recommendations on process improvement initiatives
Participates in job candidate interviews and may provide recommendation to management on technical expertise
SAP experience, Working knowledge of SAP and understanding how to input and pull reports. Development of labor budgets & estimates.
Work with quality & engineering.
Databases sufficient to perform the job, duties, and tasks associated with the position;
Aircraft sheet metal repair and component repair;
instrument, electronic and electrical test equipment;
Military or commercial aviation maintenance and its terminology;
U.S. government regulations for federal contractors and FAA maintenance programs
Cooperating with co-workers.
Understanding and using the English language both oral and written to communicate information or ideas to another person or persons;
Writing routine reports and correspondence;
Reading and interpreting documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals;
Adding, subtracting, multiplying and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals;
Interpreting a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form;
Planning and organizing;
Creating, entering, retrieving and printing from current software packages such as; Excel and Word;
Demonstrating problem analysis and independent decision making;
Demonstrating leadership; delegation of tasks and duties; motivating subordinates; discerning priorities;
Demonstrating intra and interpersonal relations;
Recognizing or identifying the existence of a problem as well as elements of a problem;
Performing a task in the presence of distracting stimulation or under monotonous conditions without significant loss of thought process and efficiency;
Perceiving and feeling such attributes of objects and materials as size, shape, temperature or texture;
Operating hand and power tools;
Interpreting drawings, specifications and schematics of aircraft instrument/electronic components;
Proficiently Utilizing schematics and technical data;
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Graduation from a standard high school or equivalent (GED) AND at least 5+ years of experience in work directly-related to aircraft component maintenance.
FAA Airframe and Power Plant license preferred but not required.
Must have a strong leadership background.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Examples of work performed in this classification include, but are not limited to, the following tasks. These tasks may be amended or other tasks may be assigned as necessary.
Act as an first line inspector to provide return to service authorization
Provide reports to management as required
Assign and direct work to be completed on Aircraft components
Write routine reports and correspondence to management
Provide guidance to team members by interpreting documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
Planning and organizing all work within area of responsibility
