Horizon Behavioral Health Verification Specialist in Lynchburg, Virginia

Position Summary

The Medical Insurance Verification Specialist will be responsible for validating insurance eligibility and coverage and coordination of benefits. The ideal candidate will ensure a positive experience for patients, providers and fellow teammates and will also contribute to faster and more efficient reimbursement. The Medical Insurance Verification Specialist will perform monthly/weekly/daily insurance Verifications on all clients served.

Required Education and Experience

  • Associate's degree in healthcare or related field.
  • Two years of prior experience working with Medicare, Medicaid, other government payers and private insurance in the behavioral health field or an equivalent combination of education and experience that meets the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Related Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to record data accurately and complete documentation within established expectations and by communicated deadlines.
  • Knowledge of administrative and clerical principles, methods, and procedures to complete work assignments.
  • Knowledge and experience using an electronic health record (EHR) system.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA and ability to maintain confidentiality of client information.
  • Knowledge of a medical office practice and environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and abbreviations used in a medical office.
  • Knowledge of electronic calendaring programs (e.g., Microsoft Outlook, Credible) for scheduling appointments and setting reminders.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and consistent use of proper spelling, grammar, punctuation, and sentence structure to ensure that written materials prepared and reviewed are complete, concise, and error-free.
  • Ability to present and express ideas and information clearly and concisely in a manner appropriate to the audience, whether oral or written.
  • Actively listens to what others are saying to achieve understanding.
  • Ability to respond effectively to changes in the work environment in a positive and professional manner.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment when making decisions in accordance with program or work unit goals and objectives.
  • Ability to manage time to ensure multiple competing deadlines are met.
  • Ability to promote positive, collaborative, and professional working relations among coworkers and representatives in the community.
  • Ability to use tact and diplomacy when dealing with the needs, problems and/or concerns of other department staff, outside agency personnel, and/or the public.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
