Position Description:

Provides project management for large, complex construction and renovation projects including budgeting, planning and programming, design, contracting, construction, commissioning, and close-out.

Major/Essential Functions:

  • General: Supports the customer service philosophy of Texas Tech University. Complies with university and Operations Division policies, procedures and work rules. Complies with all attendance policies and guidelines.

  • Technical Specialist: Provide architectural/engineering expertise to other departments as needed to assist in maintenance, renovation and new research construction projects. Serve as Operations Department project manager for Research Construction Projects.

  • Architectural/Engineering Review: Develop and review projects for compliance with campus departmental standards, building codes, state/federal regulatory requirements.

  • Facility Audits: Assist in conducting facility audits and preparing written reports detailing findings and recommendations.

  • Engineering compliance analysis: Review construction documents, specifications, product submittals, schedules, change orders, contracts/budget revisions for compliance with project scope, design intent, budge, and campus design standards.

  • Engineering design: provide engineering design and construct documents for renovation, and new construction projects. Conduct design review meetings to ensure designs meet customer needs and coordinate with appropriate campus personnel.

  • Prepare studies: performs technical studies, analysis and reports, building and utility system studies and economic analysis as necessary to support development of budget costs, project scopes and justifications.

  • Coordinate with contracted A/E firms: Coordinates activities of outside consulting A/E firms engaged in design and preparation of plans/specifications for major projects including equipment, system installation, controls, and data info system.

  • Project management/quality control: perform full scope project management responsibilities. Develop and manage project through scope, budgeting, design, bid and award phases and oversee the construction phase through project completion.

  • Safety: Support and comply with the Operations Division safety program to include all safety/health rules, regulations, operating policies and procedures.

  • Supervise subordinates: Provide supervision and oversight of subordinate staff. Responsible for recruitment and evaluation of project staff which includes design/management staff and inspection staff.

Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, Landscape Architecture, or Interior Design or related field plus ten years experience in large scale commercial project management. An advanced degree in a related field may substitute for two years of experience.
