Mississippi Employer Licensed Practical Nurse in Louisville, Mississippi

*Job Location: Choctaw Regional Medical Center * Shift 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.

*General Summary: *Assists with coordination of total nursing care for patients, participates in the patient and family teaching, and provides leadership by working cooperatively with ancillary nursing and other patient team personnel in maintaining standards for professional nursing practice in the clinical setting. Demonstrates commitment to philosophies, goals, standards of care, and acceptable standards of personal conduct and behavior. Adheres to policies and procedures of the hospital.

Essential Functions:

  • Reports pertinent observation and reactions regarding patients to the appropriate person (Registered Nurse, Physician).

  • Administers PO medications (by mouth) and performs treatments to assigned patients.

  • Participates in economical utilization of supplies and ensures that equipment is maintained in clean and safe manner.

  • Coordinates nursing care of patients when scheduled for therapy or procedures by other departments.

  • Accurately performs patient intake.

  • Monitor the rate of plain, peripheral intravenous (IV) solutions, IV site, and discontinue IV as needed.

  • Check Nursing Supply Room, and Medication Room for cleanliness and proper quantity of supplies.

  • Complete Medication Room Temperature log at 7am/7pm.

  • Keep IV tray and diabetic tray stocked at all times.

  • Perform wound care on patients.

  • Check accucheck machine and document on glucometer log (evening shift).

  • Assist Registered Nurse (RN) with admission or patients by completing initial interview.

     

    *Intravenous (IV) Certified Licensed Practical Nurse: *IV Certified LPNs are permitted to perform the following if a RN is physically on site and is readily available to respond:

    1. Initiate and maintain approved IV solutions via the peripheral route (electrolytes, solutions with vitamins and /or potassium, and antibiotics). These must be prepared or premixed and labeled by a registered nurse or registered pharmacist.
    2. Maintain the patency of the peripheral vascular access (heparin lock) using a non-therapeutic dose of saline.
