Mississippi Employer Forklift Operator in Louisville, Mississippi

The Forklift Operator loads and unloads veneer, for delivery, and moves them to and from storage areas in the plant. The team member has the ability to complete physical tasks quickly, accurately, and judges measurements like weights.  Good physical coordination is needed. The team member has the ability to follow written instructions and maintain records.  The team member is required to complete approved forklift training and have the ability to operate the forklift in compliance with the company operating safety policies and procedures. A Forklift Operator team member demonstrates the ability to work in a constant State of Alertness & Safe Manner**

Essential Functions: **

  • Attend and completes all monthly safety training

  • Under general supervision, performs routine loading and unloading of material in the log yard safely

  • Understand and follow plant safety rules including safe lifting practices and safe machine operation.  Personal Protective Equipment is to be used where required.

  • Understands and observes all safety procedures and practices in order to prevent injury to self or team members; attends periodic safety meetings as required; may recommend changes to improve safety procedures.

  • Loads and unloads veneer, and installs strapping, bracing or padding to prevent shifting or damage in transit. 

  • Performs load-building, determining the appropriate weight, composition, and placement of load based on customer order and capacity of delivery vehicle to ensure load is balanced and safe for hauling.

  • Reads work order or follows oral instructions to determine materials to be moved or loaded.

  • Conveys materials to or from storage to designated area using hand truck, electric dolly, forklift or other device.

  • Opens containers, units, slings and loads, using steel cutters, crowbar, claw-hammer or other hand tools.

  • Attaches identifying tags or labels to veneer dated properly

  • Relieves other operators for lunches/breaks and vacations

  • Communicates tenders with departmental issues

  • Other duties may be assigned.
