The role you’ll contribute:

Performs duties under the supervision of licensed anesthesia care physicians. Assists the licensed anesthesia physician in the clinical setting. Demonstrates practical knowledge and expertise in all general areas of anesthesia. Maintains and organizes the anesthesia environment, equipment, supplies and personnel to facilitate department functions. Ensures department compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements related to anesthesia care. Oversees and maintains inventory of equipment and supplies.

  • Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of the set-up, operation and troubleshooting of anesthesia delivery systems, monitors and ancillary devices.

  • Maintains sterile supplies within the expiration date and ensures sufficient inventory of all equipment and supplies.

  • Works with Supply Chain Management on cost-saving initiatives.

  • Demonstrates an understanding of anatomy and physiology as it applies to anesthesia care.

  • Maintains working knowledge of each Anesthesia case requirements and continually updates and provides information for staff.

  • Ensures that equipment and monitors are in working order and are properly connected

  • Identifies type and indications for local, monitored anesthesia care (MAC), regional and general anesthesia.

  • Maintains sufficient inventory of all equipment and supplies.

  • General understanding and recognition of basic EKG and vital sign changes and reports abnormalities to the physician.

  • Demonstrates knowledge and awareness of TJC, OSHA and Hazmat guidelines.

  • Maintains working knowledge of each Anesthesia case requirements and continually updates and provides information for staff.

  • Ensures that equipment and monitors are in working order and are properly connected

  • Identifies type and indications for local, monitored anesthesia care (MAC), regional and general anesthesia.

  • Maintains sufficient inventory of all equipment and supplies.

  • General understanding and recognition of basic EKG and vital sign changes and reports abnormalities to the physician.

  • Demonstrates knowledge and awareness of TJC, OSHA and Hazmat guidelines.

  • Prepares Anesthesia supplies, equipment and invasive lines for each surgical procedure per individual

  • Ensures anesthesia delivery systems are properly functioning before each procedure (e.g. Ultrasound equipment)

  • Prioritizes needs with other ancillary staff while assisting with room turnovers and patient throughput

  • Understands and demonstrates aseptic technique when setting up supplies and sterile field for invasive procedures.

  • Assists anesthesia physician with patient care, including: patient transport, patient positioning, application of anesthesia monitoring devices

  • Prepares properly for various types of intubation: Endotracheal Intubation, Laryngeal Mask Airway (LMA), video laryngoscope, fiberoptic scope, and difficult intubation cart.

  • Provides assistance on block procedures as needed.

  • Demonstrates competency in operation and troubleshooting of all anesthesia related equipment.

  • Identifies and prioritizes anesthesia needs in emergent situations.

  • Consults with anesthesia physician to ensure all supplies and equipment needed for procedures are available and in working order.

  • Maintains competency for operation of anesthesia related equipment.

  • Adheres to scope of practice while providing patient care.

  • Knowledgeable of guidelines, policies and safety requirements as determined by all regulatory organizations.

  • Notifies anesthesiologist of suspected or actual defects in equipment and reports it to proper person for required maintenance.

  • Cleans equipment, reusable items and machines daily and between surgical procedures according to protocol as necessary.

  • Identifies fire, electrical, laser and explosive hazards.

  • Ability to provide on-call coverage outside of standard scheduled hours per department and/or facility policy.

Qualifications

Education

  • High School Diploma or GED

Experience

  • Previous healthcare related experience

  • Basic computer skills

Preferred

Education

  • Graduate of an ASATT approved program preferred

Experience

  • Previous Anesthesia Technician experience

Licensure, Certification, or Registration Required

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association
