At CACI Ops-West, we specialize in the design, development and manufacturing of complex, state-of-the-art Optical Communication systems for military, space, and commercial applications.

We are currently looking for a Mechanical Engineer to join our team. Responsibilities include:

  • Design and analysis of hardware for harsh conditions including high dynamic loads and wide thermal environments

  • Experience in designing active and passive thermal control systems and thermal and dynamic/stress analysis

  • Specifying and evaluating mechanical hardware including, but not limited to, the following:

  • Engineering materials

  • Automated and manual motion control systems

  • Thermal management / temperature control systems

  • Mechatronics analysis and design for precision optical communication systems a plus

  • Laboratory validation and testing of test setups, breadboard and prototype subsystems

  • Creating and presenting design review materials to other members of the team as well as customers

  • Providing technical support for new concepts and proposals

The successful candidate will have the following qualifications/experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering

  • 3+ years of experience in the design, analysis, and test of precision mechanisms

  • Excellent hands-on and laboratory skills in building, testing and validation of optical subsystems, and thermal and dynamic subassemblies

  • Experience in successfully transitioning prototype designs into production

  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills

The following qualifications and experience are highly desired but not required:

  • Familiarity with free-space optical communication systems

  • Familiarity with the design and integration of opto/electo-mechanical systems

  • Space-based (satellite) payload experience
