Our work depends on a RELEASE ENGINEER joining our team to support the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) activities in Columbia, MD.

At GDIT, we foster a people-centric environment. As a Release Engineer supporting CMS on the Enterprise Portal Contract (EPC), you will work closely with the Agile teams to coordinate releases as a part of our Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) system. You will be required to provide after-hours support, including off-hour and weekend deployments. In this role, a typical day will include:

  • Automating the build/release process to support CI/CD

  • Executing Portal releases in accordance with release playbooks/defined

  • Facilitating release daily stand-up meetings to finalize all change requests moving into upcoming release cycles

  • Creating release build packages using build automation tools (Jenkins, Ant/Maven, Shell, etc.)

  • Developing and maintaining release documentation, such as the Version Description Document (VDD) and release notes

  • Assigning and ensuring appropriate tagging and statusing of change requests and bugs in the defect tracking tool

  • Capturing and analyzing release metrics, such as time to deploy, contents per environment per release.

  • Facilitating retrospectives and tracking of actionable items to completion

  • Supporting Git activities (Create Repos, merge code, Tagging, etc.)

WHAT YOU’LL NEED:

  • Bachelor’s degree or 4 additional years of equivalent experience

  • 5+ years of experience with Configuration Management (CM) concepts and support, coordinating and automating software releases/deployments to AWS environments

  • Hands-on experience with Git (or an equivalent version control system, including branching and merging strategies), Jenkins, Nexus, and/or Puppet tools

  • Experience with Apache build tools Ant and/or Maven

  • Experience with JIRA

  • Candidate must be able to obtain Public Trust clearance and must have lived in the United States at least three (3) out of the last five (5) years

  • Candidate must be available to provide after-hours support, including off-hour and weekend deployments.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • US citizen or a Green Card holder

  • Healthcare Service Industry or CMS experience

  • Understanding of Infrastructure as a code (IaaC) scripting languages such as Python, Unix Shell, CloudFormation, Terraform, and/or Ansible

  • Knowledge of SAFe Agile methodologies

  • Ability to work collaboratively within small teams as well as with external vendors
