UCLA Health Staff Research Associate I in Los Angeles, California

Description

The Department of Molecular & Medical Pharmacology is seeking a highly motivated Staff Research Associate that will be primarily responsible for a wide range of molecular biological procedures that are critical for experiments including DNA and RNA extraction, PCR, gel electrophoresis, genotyping, western blots, ELISA, quantitative PCR, and flow cytometry. They will also assist with cell culturing and maintaining murine cancer cells lines. Additional critical duties and tasks include assisting with and performing important experimental procedures on mice such as intravenous tail vein injections, adoptive cell transfers, and intraperitoneal injections. Other tasks will be general lab tasks such as organizing experimental protocols, maintaining our mouse inventories, and ordering lab supplies that are to be performed as needed.

Hourly range: $25.75-$30.71

Qualifications

Required:

  • Knowledge of basic genetics, molecular biology and biochemical principles; Ability to use basic laboratory equipment, including centrifuge, pH meter, PCR, etc;

  • Ability to carefully handle mice according to ARC guidelines; Demonstrated ability to calculate concentrations of solutions as necessary;

  • Ability to organize raw data into a comprehensible form;

  • Ability to maintain laboratory readiness for future experiments;

  • Ability to create and maintain records accurately;

  • Ability to communicate effectively to convey experimental results; Interpersonal skills to effectively interact with faculty, staff, postdoctoral fellows and students.

Preferred:

  • Familiarity with techniques including SDS-PAGE, Western blotting, Southern, ELISA, chromatography, and binding assays

  • BS in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or related field.
