In this role, the Staff Research Associate I provides laboratory support under the direction of the Principal Investigator and a senior scientist in the Division of Molecular and Cellular Oncology. Assist and perform studies related to ongoing laboratory research. Specific duties include tissue cell culture, flow cytometry, PCR, western blots, immunofluorescence, animal work, preparation of data for publication and grant proposals, ordering of supplies and equipment, upkeep of equipment and general lab maintenance. Supervision of lab helpers and students working in the lab as required.

Salary: $25.75 - $30.71 hourlyQualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in the Life Sciences or Biochemistry - preferred

  • Ability to prepare data for publication and grant applications

  • Ability to write technical material in scientific language

  • Basic molecular biological skills, e.g. Southern, Northern, Western and PCR, working with DNA, RNA and proteins

  • Demonstrated experience in cell biology, microbiology and molecular biology

  • Demonstrated skill in RT-PCR's, flow cytometry and immunological and molecular biology assays

  • Skill in conducting literature search and retrievals, both through use of bioscience library and on-line service

  • Skill in sterile technique and of maintaining cells in tissue culture

  • Skill in using micropipettors, microscopes, centrifuges, scintillation counter, CO2 incubators, waterbaths, spectrophotometer, pH meter, autoclaves and flow cytometer
