UCLA Health Program Manager in Los Angeles, California

Description

The Department of Medicine is seeking a dynamic and motivated Program Manager to oversee the ]day-to-day project activities. Key responsibilities in this role will include managing data use agreements for Medicare claims data and other databases, coordinating with federal and non-federal agencies, such as the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Service and its contractors (e.g., Research Data Assistance Center [ResDAC]). The role involves supervising and coordinating the efforts of statisticians, programmers, data management teams, research assistants, and student workers to ensure the progress of analyses for large-scale research projects. Additional duties encompass hiring, training, and supervising research assistants and student workers, as well as managing the project budget in collaboration with the fund manager. The Program Manager will also be responsible for preparing and collecting data for progress reports. In addition, the role involves conducting literature reviews, maintaining EndNote (or Mendeley) libraries, and summarizing scientific literature relevant to ongoing research studies.

Hourly salary range: $26.48-$53.40Qualifications

Required:

  • Working knowledge of basic research principles to aid PI and project staff with tasks including: preparation of research protocols; implementation of research projects including developing strategies for primary data collection; data preparation for analysis; preparation of grant proposals for extramural funding.

  • Working knowledge of requirements and procedures involved in grant proposal, abstract and journal article submission to different journals, private organizations, and governmental agencies.

  • Interpersonal skills to interact effectively and diplomatically with faculty members from a variety of departments at UCLA, and researchers and staff at external organizations.

  • Ability to work independently; make decisions; hire and supervise staff; conduct performance evaluations; counsel staff to resolve employee relations; delegate work and oversee timely completion of projects with concurrent and confliction deadlines

  • Masters-level training in public health, health sciences, epidemiology or related fields.

  • Ability to keep abreast of new developments in University policies and procedures (including employment policies, policies related to clinical practices, research methods, computer hardware and software packages, and) and identify research expertise of new faculty members, new funded projects of faculty, and new educational activities.

  • Demonstrated skills in problem-solving to include gathering and analyzing information to determine the best solutions to problems involving conduction research projects, evaluation and implementation of educational activities, and project management.

  • Fluency in MS Word, PowerPoint, FileMaker, Access, Excel, and Endnote.

  • Ability to maintain the confidentiality of communications, correspondence, reports, budgets, etc.

Preferred:

  • Knowledge about simple statistical analysis. Experience with STATA, SAS, and R

  • Demonstrated expertise in the IRB, including the preparation and submission of applications. Must be fluent in current policies relating to human subjects in research.

  • Previous experience working as project manager.

  • Experience with or background in secondary data analysis of large databases and survey research.
