UCLA Health Laboratory Assistant II - Physiology in Los Angeles, California

Description

Under supervision of the P.I. and postdoctoral fellows, assist with maintaining cultures of mammallian cells, buffer preparation, reagent preparation, and general lab support. Maintain excellent, comprehensive, written records in standard English. Participate in shared lab upkeep duties with other lab staff. Work cooperatively with lab personnel. Work safely as instructed by PI.Qualifications

REQUIRED:

Working knowledge of solution chemistry to allow preparation of media, stock solutions, and buffers.

Ability to use computers to enter data accurately.

Ability to follow instructions and protocols to perform assignments with minimal supervision.

Demonstrated ability to communicate verbally and to understand and carry out verbal instructions. Skill in communicating clearly and effectively to receive and convey information accurately and in a professional manner.

Demonstrated ability to work as member of team.

PREFERRED:

Knowledge of accepted/approved procedures in working with bacteria and cell lines.

Skill in laboratory safety protocols including proper handling of biohazardous substances, including chemicals.

Demonstrated writing skills for generation of basic laboratory protocols and to ensure acceptable record/data keeping.

Reading skills sufficient to understand journal articles and scientific protocols.

Skill in use of specialized lab equipment (PCR, autoclave, pH meters, balances, centrifuges, FPLCs, etc.).

Knowledge of sterile culture techniques.

Demonstrated ability to perform detailed or complicated lab procedures, sometimes requiring delicate manual or manipulative skills.

Work cooperatively with lab personnel

Work safely as instructed by PI.
