UCLA Health Laboratory Assistant 1 - Neurosurgery in Los Angeles, California

Description

The Lab Assistant I in the Department of Neurosurgery in the David Geffen School of Medicine will be supported by a project from the UCLA SPORE in Brain Cancer and philanthropic funds. The position will support experimental research jointly on glioblastoma immunotherapy. As part of this work, the position will entail being responsible for laboratory maintenance; including, but not limited to, the disposal of chemical and biohazardous waste, autoclaving and cleaning of lab equipment and supplies, ordering and maintaining inventory of laboratory supplies, and ensuring the lab space abides by institutional safety standards. Other necessary responsibilities include processing of clinical biological samples, maintaining detailed sample and experiment records, cataloguing sample inventory, and retrieval, transport, and shipment of biological samples. Necessary skills and experience include knowledge of sterile technique, peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) isolation, microtome sectioning of tissue, and tissue culture. Must be able to follow standard operating procedures and work collaboratively with others. Prefer minimum of bachelor's degree in life sciences and 2 years of laboratory experience.

Salary Range: $19.32 - $22.37 HourlyQualifications

Required:

Ability to prioritize workload when faced with multiple tasks.

Verbal and composition skills to convey detailed medical information.

Excellent typing skills.

Working knowledge of PC including the following software: Microsoft Office.

Ability to perform with frequent interruptions.

Knowledge of sterile technique, peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) isolation, serum and plasma isolation and tissue culture.

Ability to follow standard operating procedures and work collaboratively with others.

Preferred:

Knowledge of Microsoft SharePoint

Bachelor's degree in Life Science

Three (3) years of laboratory experience
