UCLA Health Lab Assistant - Mass Spectometry Laboratory in Los Angeles, California

Description

The Semel Institute is seeking to hire a Limited Part Time Lab Assistant 2 to work with the Principal Investigator on the development of new metabolites assays by LC/MS and GC/MS. In this role you will work independently and report to the Director of the Mass Spectrometry Lab. Duties of this role include but are not limited to:

  • Organize proteomics sample preparation in a busy biological mass spectrometry laboratory.

  • Extreme attention to detail is expected as samples are frequently precious.

  • Responsible for prioritization of instrument usage.

  • General laboratory activities such as washing glassware.

  • You will take charge of waste solvent management and be responsible for day‐ to‐day lab safety management and EH&S inspections.

  • You will be skilled in mass spectral data interpretation using specialized software programs.

Pay Range: $21.38 - 25.15 hourly

Qualifications

Required:

  • Attention to detail is required as samples are frequently precious.

  • Openness to learn detailed multi-step protocols and perform them precisely.

  • Familiarity with basic laboratory practices including pipetting and making solutions.

  • Prior experience in any area of science-based research would be helpful

  • Prior experience with GC/MS and LC/MS equipment is essential.

  • Applicants should be computer literate and will operate personal computers in the laboratory.
