Telemundo 52 (KVEA) in Los Angeles, CA, is actively looking for a dynamic Weather & Traffic Anchor/Reporter. The ideal candidate will deliver compelling graphics that are both clear and engaging; narrate a captivating weather narrative in every broadcast, ensuring viewers are well-informed with the essential information they need daily. Additionally, this role involves generating comprehensive traffic reports.

Responsibilities:

  • Execute breaking weather and traffic news across all platforms.

  • Develop weather forecasts and traffic updates utilizing a variety of sources and advanced technology.

  • Deliver weather and traffic updates across all platforms in a clear, engaging, and insightful manner tailored to the Los Angeles DMA audience.

  • Showcase a continuous enthusiasm for conveying weather and traffic updates through compelling graphics, verbal communication, and written content.

  • Investigate and report on weather-related stories that significantly affect viewers and the environment.

  • Keep abreast of the latest weather developments by monitoring relevant news feeds.

  • Leverage a strong understanding of social media to highlight stories effectively on various platforms.

  • Support the coordination of weather and traffic content across multiple media platforms.

  • Build and maintain thorough knowledge of the Los Angeles market and community dynamics.

  • Be prepared to report on specialized topics, including weather phenomena, environmental issues, earthquakes, and traffic.

  • Craft scripts, PKGs and participate in field live shots.

  • Record and present promotional materials as needed and participate in community events as required.

  • Fulfill reporting responsibilities as assigned throughout the workweek.

Qualifications:

  • Meteorology/Atmospheric Science degree or equivalent experience

  • Minimum 3 years of experience as a broadcast TV Meteorologist, weather anchor or news reporter.

  • AMS, or NWA seal of approval or the ability to begin process of certification.

  • Bilingual: Spanish and English; both written and verbal

     

Other Desired Qualifications

  • Must have working knowledge of computer graphics systems such as: WSI, Weather Central, and Accuweather.

  • Experiences in a variety of anchor/reporting scenarios, including studio, remotes, specials, etc.

  • Very strong speech skills with the ability to ad-lib effortlessly in various types of situations, particularly breaking news, in Spanish and English

  • Proven experience using forecasting tools including Doppler Radar and Satellite Maps.

  • Excellent news writing ability for all platforms, as well as proficiency in newsgathering equipment and computers essential

  • Proficiency in weather analysis and forecasting

  • Proven ability to ad-lib effortlessly on-air while under pressure during weather breaking news and during newscasts.

  • Must be willing and able to work extended hours, varying shifts (including nights, weekends and holidays).

  • Report to work in emergencies depending upon news coverage when required.

  • Strong understanding and demonstration of editorial judgment and journalistic ethics, including a current knowledge of laws of libel, slander and applicable FCC rules and regulations

  • Experience in automated studio environments

  • Produce Augmented Reality graphics is a plus

  • Ability to solve problems, prioritize decisions, and successfully manage multiple assignments concurrently in a high pressure, breaking news environment

  • Understanding of emerging news production techniques and technology

  • Experience in Bay Area market and familiarity with Bay Area audience and communities

  • Active engagement in Social Media (Twitter, Facebook, etc.)

  • Good collaborative and interpersonal skills to communicate at all levels, in Spanish and English

  •  Work well in a team environment and be able to interact positively and productively with other employees

    Salary Range: $102,000 - $160,000
