UCLA Health Clinical Support Supervisor - Westwood Main OR in Los Angeles, California

Description

Under the general direction of the OR Director and direct supervision of the Unit Manager and the registered nurse; the incumbent is responsible for assisting the anesthesiologist in the preparation of equipment needed to administer anesthesia; setting up invasive lines for patient monitoring; performing cell saving procedures; setting up Laser and Video equipment and assisting in Laser procedures; setting up other OR equipment; trouble-shooting OR equipment for the clinical staff; and performing clerical and coordinating duties as assigned by the RN Charge Nurse. The incumbent will perform job duties following department protocols and manufacturer's recommendations in operating equipment; adhere to established procedures based on anesthesiologist's preference in setting up invasive lines. Must consult with physicians and charge nurse regarding allocation of equipment. The incumbent will make independent decisions, as appropriate. The supervisor ensures that the department is customer oriented. The supervisor oversees the accuracy, training, and orientation of staff to the Instrument Tracking. The supervisor independently establishes and pursues objectives and handles fluctuating workloads and timelines.

Qualifications

  1. Competency in operating Laser, video, Endoscopy, other major OR and monitoring equipment.

  2. Ability to work in fast paced and stressful environment.

  3. Ability to prioritize own work to complete assigned task during shift.

  4. Knowledge of infection control and Health Surveillance, OSHA, Universal Precautions, Waste Management, Handling of hazardous substances and Medical Device Act.

  5. Knowledge of the Mission and Philosophy of RR-UCLA Medical Center.

  6. Knowledge of Patients' Bill of Rights.

  7. Knowledge of AORN and AAMI Standards specific to areas of responsibility.

  8. Knowledge of department policies and procedures.

  9. Ability to meet physical requirements of the job relating to lifting, carrying, pulling or pushing 50 lbs or more, extensive walking and standing and manual dexterity in operating equipment.

  10. Required: HS Diploma/GED and 1+ years of experience
