Los Alamos National Laboratory Team Leader (Solutions Architect 3) in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

The Innovative Customer Experience Division EasyIT Services (ICE-EIT) group provides information technology solutions for our customers. Our vision is to maximize the end-user experience and create efficiencies to allow for constantly evolving technology. The division is organized around EasyIT and field support groups that are focused on supporting unclassified and classified programmatic and mission support needs, and a technical services group that provides the enterprise level configuration management services for these computing environments.

ICE division is seeking an energetic, technical, and customer-focused Team Leader for the ICE EasyIT (ICE-EIT) group. ICE-EIT consists of approximately 61 professionals, technicians, and students. The selected candidate will be responsible for providing direct leadership and experience in a Hardware Team environment. The Hardware Team provides standardized equipment in support of EasyIT operations which includes provisioning (CDC), Encryption (FDE), Staging (DeployIT) and Loans (LendIT).

Solutions Architect 3 ($112,000- $186,700)

As an important part of the ICE leadership team, the successful candidate's primary responsibilities include first level manager duties as defined for a Solutions Architect 3 position. In addition to leading and managing the team, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

Leadership

  • Assisting in all aspects of employee performance management for the members of the team.

  • Selecting, retaining, and developing high-quality staff.

  • Pro-active, personal, and professional development.

  • Experience with initiating and leading change.

  • Metric reporting.

  • Mentoring direct reports.

  • Advancing professionalism, supporting technical growth, and providing exceptional customer service.

Technical Competence

  • Utilizing service and tools to optimize standard configurations and security.

  • Implementing Cyber Security measures as required by the DOE/NNSA, LASO, OCIO.

  • Supporting the management and oversight of major efforts such as infrastructure upgrades, new hardware, and software implementation.

  • Implementing and supporting ICE best practices, services, and tools to promote standard desktop configurations and security.

  • Proven process improvement.

  • Proven service innovation and evolution.

  • Experience with tracking projects and meeting milestones and deadlines.

Institutional Acumen

  • Enhancing relationships with IT Service providers and our customers.

  • Experience presenting to or engaging with multiple levels of management.

  • I&T collaborating support functions with all Divisions within the Associate Laboratory Director for Business Services.

  • Managing of budget and deliverables by serving as a steward of the team's finances, personnel, and property resources.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Extensive knowledge of hardware and operating systems including system architectures, network infrastructures, and client server principles.

  • Extensive knowledge and demonstrated experience of desktop and server computing support, computing infrastructure design and implementation, network integration, and an understanding of Laboratory computing and network operations.

  • Technical leadership experience with an emphasis on planning, employee development, performance management, team building, goal setting, problem solving, and conflict resolution.

  • Demonstrated ability to work with all levels of management and cyber security personnel.

  • Demonstrated experience with collaboration across organizational boundaries, and the ability to manage customer relationships in a positive and effective manner.

Education/Experience: Position requires a minimum of 10-15 years of related experience. At this level, post-graduate coursework may be desirable.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Active DOE L or Q clearance, or equivalent, transferable clearance

  • Knowledge of IT governance frameworks such as ITIL, or COBIT

  • Knowledge of the Information Architecture process and implementation of standards

  • Knowledge of project management principles to set project scope, schedule, priorities, and deliverables.

  • Experience in critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making.

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM and Santa Fe, NM (Pacheco Location) All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 (https://directives.nnsa.doe.gov/supplemental-directive/sd-0206-0002) . Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.

Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
