What You Will Do
The successful candidate will become a member of the International Threat Reduction group (NEN-3) and be assigned to the Nonproliferation Application and Project Development (NAPD) team. This team develops creative and innovative hardware, software, and web-based solutions in support of Los Alamos National Laboratory's Global Security mission with a focus on software development, engineering, data management and emerging technologies.
The candidate will assist in the research, design, testing, analysis, verification and validation of software solutions in support of R&D initiatives.
Assisting in the development of new methods, techniques, or approaches to address critical technical issues.
Contribute to the completion of milestones associated with software development and technical projects. May directly contribute to the achievement of programmatic objectives.
Takes responsibility for understanding tasks and owns contributions to deliverables on multiple projects.
Continues to develop technical expertise and knowledge within the software development and engineering disciplines and develops new skills in related disciplines.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Experience developing applications with a least one general purpose programming language such as C#, Java, C++, JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, Go, Rust, or similar.
Knowledge of software engineering principles, design patterns, with modern software development methodologies such as Agile, DevOps, and SCRUM tools and techniques, and willingness to participate in brainstorming, sprint planning and working as part of a team.
Firm understanding of data structures, algorithms, and software design.
Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) with a desire to constantly learn and adapt while working on diversified projects.
Desired Qualifications:
Knowledge/experience with database design, security and component integration.
Knowledge/understanding of hardware and operating systems including system architecture, network infrastructure, and client/server principles.
Knowledge/understanding of hardware and software integration and testing.
Familiarity with Software Quality Assurance
Knowledge/experience with software requirements gathering and documentation.
Active Q Clearance.
Education/Experience requirements: Awarded a B.S. in Software Engineering, Computer Science or a related technical field completed within the past 3 years with a cumulative GPA of least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale and has not yet been accepted/enrolled in a graduate program.
Work Environment:
Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 (https://directives.nnsa.doe.gov/supplemental-directive/sd-0206-0002) . Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.
*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 (https://www.directives.doe.gov/directives-documents/400-series/0472.2-BOrder-chg1-pgchg) for additional information.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
